Impact of Magnet Designation on Organizational Culture in Healthcare

Organization culture plays a crucial role in quality healthcare delivery. A healthy culture

inspires collaboration, teamwork, and other components leading to positive patient outcomes and

satisfied staff. Due to the rising demand for evidence-based practices and contemporary

challenges such as pandemic outbreak and the ageing population, health managers have to

implement positive organizational culture.

Anderson, Johnston, and Massey et al. (2018) studied the effect of Magnet designation on

the organizational culture in relation to nursing and quality healthcare delivery. The authors

conducted a systematic literature search on healthcare databases using specific keywords such as

organizational culture, changes and magnet status. The findings indicate that magnet designation

positively impacts the organizational culture, especially for nurses. The organization culture

determines the success or failure of translating evidence in clinical practice in a healthcare

setting.

According to Anderson et al. (2018), organizational culture forms an essential part of a

healthcare setting's positive and productive working environment. Magnet facilities are likely to

focus on organizational culture compared to non-magnet hospitals. Similarly, the magnet status

emphasizes collaboration and teamwork among the practitioners, resulting in positive outcomes

for the staff and patients.

Comparison to my thoughts concerning magnet

Magnet designation focuses on nursing excellence and high-quality patient care. The

magnet status ensures that nurses and clients are satisfied with the service. Research indicates

that the magnet program improves the working environment for the staff. Therefore, based on
3

Anderson’s et al. (2018) findings, I believe that a magnet program improves organizational

culture in relation to nursing.

In conclusion, magnet designation positively impacts the organizational culture and

healthcare quality. Improved organizational culture contributes to a better working environment

and enhanced collaboration and teamwork, which is critical in nursing.
