SOMEWHERE AT

THE TOP

Mountain climbing has been on the bucket list of many
people. People tend find solace and pleasure in this activity.
It is also a great activity to rejuvenate and reflect oneself.
Mountain climbing is an expedition that brings you closer to
nature and helps you connect with it closely. This year has
been a tough one for all of us, especially during the
pandemic. We had been in our home for quite a long time. Kibatang, Don Carlos, Bukidnon
My cousins and I planned for a mountain climbing and
camping trip last January 2021 and I always wanted to try my hands at mountain climbing. We
heard a lot of beautiful mountains but chose the one which is nearest to us. 25 miles, 30 minute
drive, bumpy road and took us awhile to get to our destination. After that, we bought all our things
and started our adventure. Honestly, I am not an acrophile. I love nature but I am not fond of
outdoor adventures. If I happen to go out, it will just be in the groceries, mall, school or probably
just going out for errands and school-related stuffs. I am a person who'd rather stay in the City or
to live in the mountains. As we follow the trail, I climbed without any idea of what awaited on the
peak or along the hike. At first, courage and fear both reside in the heart, they are inseparable.
However, as we reach on top, I was mersmerized by the scenic view. It's like I'm in a see of clouds.
The cold breeze welcomed us and I never thought that day would come to me like I was so inlove
and wanted to stay in the mountain. We enjoyed the view with a cup of sikwate. And then
assembled our tents for us to have shelter throughout the night.

REFLECTION:
I can say that my mountain experience is an exhilarating,
rewarding and life changing experience. Although climbing a
mountain can be one of life's greatest accomplishments, it is
more than panoramic views, the satisfaction of reaching the top,
or a true wilderness experience. Mountain climbing is a great
challenge that involves risk, danger, and hardship. Mountain
climbing is not for everyone I can say, although some can find it
interesting, as well as frustrating and sometimes even deadly
(good thing mine isn't). There are qualities to mountain climbing
that bring inspiration and joy to us that is more than just a
pastime. A distant view of a mountain may speak of adventure,
but the mountains only hint at the joys and hardship that await
the climber indeed. Climbing a mountain takes much
preparation, knowledge and skill. We shouldn't take the
preparation for granted to problems along the way. Mountains
are able to teach the soul to not overlook small things in life.
REFLECTION:
The hours of climbing make us appreciate every drop of water.
The cold wind at the top makes us thankful for the extra layer of
clothing. We learn the importance of gratitude to everything we
have and experienced. Most especially the time spent together
with people. A day without a phone wasn't a loss or a problem
anyways. That whole experience made us connect to nature and
to the people I am with. By definition mountain climbing is an
adventure, but at the time I was there with my family and friends
I realize... I had both home and adventure and it wasn't because
of where I am, but because of the people around me. We danced,
cried and laughed our hearts out and that was one of the best
things ever. I just hope everyone experienced and felt what I
felt that day. It was just a wholesome experience for me. I
consider myself an amateur but I will definitely go back soon . I
know mountains can be dangerous but they are magical.
