Narrative Essay

Breaking the rules can sometimes lead to the most wondrous and memorable adventures,

however, it can have dire consequences. Seldom, bravery and rebellion are a start to an

unforgettable adventure, but also they are a way to get hurt. On the day when I conquered my

fear of heights by rock climbing, feeling brave, I disobeyed my parents, which led me to find a

place which was one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen. However, the consequences of

my reckless actions were more severe than ever.

One day, out of the blue, my father told me that we were going rock climbing in a few

days. We were going to hike, and then climb when the trail ends. It was going to be me, him, my

best friend Ellen, and her father. I was excited, but at the same time scared like I’ve never been

before. I had a terrible fear of heights, but I loved climbing more than anything. I started

preparing for the journey that same day. When it was time to go, I was so scared I thought my

heart was going to explode. It would have been the biggest thing I had ever done in my life. At

first, it was easy, we were not that high up and Ellen and I were talking the whole time. As we

gained more and more altitude, the air became more scarce and it was harder to breathe. We

climbed up to a village, which was settled on the mountain. Seeing it was getting late, we

decided to spend the night and explore the town the next day. After that, we would be on our

way.

The next day, I woke up early to get as much out of that day as possible. Our parents told

my friend and I to be careful, not wander off, and stay in the hotel area. However, we had

different plans. We walked all across the village, talking to people and exploring the sites, in
hopes that we might find something interesting like in a movie. Finally, when we reached what

seemed like the edge of the village, we found a small, stage-like rock attached to a wall. Because

we were children who never listened to their parents, we decided to climb on top of it. After a

few minutes, we were at the top and had the whole village at our feet. It was a magnificent view

of the village mixed with the landscape, which now that I think of it, would make a great

painting. We were standing on a stage in front of the whole world. I was enjoying the air and the

wind when I noticed that there was a part of the wall covered in moss and leaves. When we got

close to the wall, it turned out to be just a disguise for a cave. I could not believe what we had

discovered. It was a cave filled with carvings of different images and texts. We thought we had

discovered a new historical site. We got so excited, that we rushed to tell everyone.

When we were getting off the rock, I accidentally slipped on the wet grass, fell, and

broke my arm. I didn't know I broke it yet so I returned like nothing was wrong even though it

hurt like hell. Only when I couldn't pick up my bag my dad found out about the arm and rushed

me to the nearest hospital. After that, I told him about my discovery, but he didn’t seem to care

since he was too busy yelling. When we got back home, I was grounded for a month, and had to

do chores and extra homework every day for that month. Later on, to our disappointment, we

found out that the cave was an old historical site discovered over 20 years ago, by an explorer

just like us. It proved that there were settlements in that village during the stone age. So, instead

of getting praise, we got punished for disobeying our parents, though the memories and the

excitement from that adventure, remain with us to this day.

Although we were faced with a disappointment, I still will appreciate all that I have

conquered, including overcoming my fears, as well as going on one of the most interesting
explorations in my life with my best friend. We climbed a mountain and got to see what people’s

lives were like up there, as well as get some cultural background by finding an ancient cave from

the stone age. However, this would have ended a lot better if not for my reckless behavior. This

day had a huge impact on me as I learned that it is best to listen to my parents and stay safe. It

helped me realize that recklessness can lead to dangerous consequences.
