Summer 2020 Internship Evaluation of Mais Omar

appraisals no later than one week after the conclusion of the internship.

Supervisor: Appraisal from supervisor on how well the student met learning goals and
accomplished internship responsibilities:

I am the Primary Investigator on the COVID-19 College Student Impact Survey research project
with a team of five other researchers from three local universities. We surveyed college students
(undergrad and graduate students, 18 years and older) across the United States to investigate
their experiences and perceptions of the pandemic’s impact on their lives and their academic
progress during the fall of 2020. We were delighted to have Mais working with us to help clean
the data and prepare our review of the literature.

Mais demonstrated a strong understanding of research ethics and procedures by completing the
Citi-Training Program. Additionally, Mais contributed a great deal to our review of literature by
completing a brief annotated bibliography on college student health. During her review of the
literature, Mais also learned about Zotero, a reference management software which will surely
help her in her future research endeavors. As the team started cleaning the survey data
(N=2,068), Mais helped by grouping schools and verifying the validity of schools. She also made
helpful suggestions for creating new – potentially relevant – categories that we may include in
our analyses.

It was most impressive that Mais was able to remain positive, available, communicative, and
productive during the uncertain and stressful moments brought about by COVID-19. She has
solid organization and time management skills and holds very high standards for herself. It was
an honor and a pleasure to be able to work with Mais during her summer 2020 Internship.
