ANSWER THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS:

1. Discuss the methods of farming practiced before the first agricultural revolution. Elucidate your

answer.

-Before the first agricultural revolution, people relied on hunting animals and gathering (subsisting on
wild plants to keeping small gardens) to obtain food supplies.

As time went on, humans became more and more sophisticated at breeding the plants and livestock
that best meet our needs. The corn you see in the grocery store and the pigs, cows, and sheep you see
at a farm did not evolve independently in the wild. They are the product of thousands of years of human
selection and breeding from original, wild forms.

2. Discuss the difference between subsistence farming vs commercial farming.

Subsistence Agriculture- is the production of food primarily for consumption by the farmer's family.
-the farming practice in which crops are raised for personal
consumption, it is
, known as subsistence farming
- -Traditional methods are used
, -It depends on monsoon
, -Food grains, fruits and vegetables
-It is enhanced through the use of manures.

, -The farming practice, in which the farmer grows crops for the purpose of trade,
, it is called commercial farming
, -machines are used.
, -Cash crops and cereals
, -It uses modern irrigation methods
, -It is enhanced through higher doses of modern inputs.
, -It is practiced in large area and capital is intensive

3. Define/Explain fully the slash and burn or swidden agricultural farming method?

Slash-and-burn agriculture -is often used by tropical-forest root-crop farmers in various parts of the
world and by dry-rice cultivators of the forested hill country of Southeast Asia. The ash provides some
fertilization, and the plot is relatively free of weeds. After several years of cultivation, fertility declines
and weeds increase.

4. What are the negative impacts of slash and burn farming system or swidden agricultural farming?
Modern slash-and-burn techniques or swidden agricultural farming has also negative impacts to our
environment. This are a significant source of carbon dioxide emissions, especially when used to initiate
permanent deforestation. In Southeast Asia, slash-and-burn agriculture for oil palm cultivation has been
a major source of annual air pollution from smoke.

Discuss your answer: As what have said in above statement, it can be the great cause of pollution that is
one of the most problem here in earth.

5. Explain why do we need to shift from more ecological way of farming system?

We need to shift more in ecological way of farming system because it is based on the premise that the
crops take advantage of natural resources to, for example, fight pests, maintain or increase soil fertility,
etc., without resorting to synthetic chemicals such as fertilizers, pesticides, antibiotics, and without using
any organisms that have been genetically modified. This way, more natural, healthy, and nutritious
foods are obtained. In addition, it helps to achieve greater sustainability of the environment causing
minimal environmental impact.
