Reaction Paper about Testimonial Lecture

“You have really find your Passion” the line that have really marked on my mind after
watching the Testimonial lecture of our University’s alumni Mr. Jeric Mendoza. It was one the
most worth watching testimony that I’ve ever watched. Right after everything in the video, I
automatically asked myself “are the things that I’m doing right now is my passion? or will really
help me to find my passion?
He humbly shared his experiences which I’m sure that every student and even the other
faculty members who witnessed his testimonial lecture would be feel inspired with his words,
just what I am right now from the very beginning that PhDs. mentioned his name, his degree,
award, and his job position. But what inspired me the most is when I heard his inspirational
thoughts and insights.
He said that there are 2 things that we must do right. It is to choose your life partner and
choose the right career what you pursue. It took me a sudden realization about the reality, as
what Mr. Jeric said that after moving from college, our 24 hours will be rotate in our family and
our workplace. He also added that there are things that we should think carefully before we
decide, because if you failed in choosing your life partner, your career or in your path to take, it
will spend a lot of time.
I also learned from him that a simple word of others can greatly affect one’s decision.
Just what happened in his story, he was a child dreaming to become a lawyer until one of his
relative said “hindi ok maging abogado kase wala naman tayong koneksyon”, which he
considered as worst advice that he have ever heard that made him close the door in entering Law
as a course. He switched to decide other course to take, he was influenced by the goodness of
the idea of “becoming a CEO of the private company”, which led him to take the Bachelor of
Science in Agribusiness Management.
He became an instructor for a year in our university, “Central Luzon State University”
where he took his degree. According to him it was a great experience and an honor but even he
might the knowledge to teach, but he might not have the wisdom as what other professors have,
to continue teaching. And he realized that teaching was not aligned with his passion. He really
wanted to be involved in corporate setting. He got a job from the company which he had applied
all the learnings from “BSAM” course. Especially in Easy Bio Philippines where he sharpened
his knowledge and learned more by getting out of his comfort zone. Because he also went to the
company which was entirely different in Agribusiness. By that experience of him, I understand
the of the role of Education right now. I also realized how flexible the course Agribusiness is.
From all the learnings about the different part, concept of business, it can be applied from all
business-related job. Because the course is a large scope because we have different a large
understanding in every business related, not only on how to manage but also in marketing,
accounting and many more. That’s why he is thankful in CLSU because every knowledge he
gained was made him prepared in many situations in business he encountered. From
experiencing different job, it made him realize that “In every work or job can change your
perspective.”
Mr. Jeric also highlight how important the Time Management is. In 24 hours, “paano mo
gagamitin ang oras mo” by hearing his thoughts, it also reminded me to value every second of
everyday, spend it for the things that really matter. And as one of the lessons he learned from
CLSU that he applied in working on company “You need to wear many hats”. Grab the
opportunity to be able to become part of many things. Because from different experiences, you
learn a lot.
He also shared things about success. According to him success is a function of
knowledge, it needs action and hard work. Also, it is also required network. You gain
knowledge, turn the knowledge to work and link with people, enwiden your network. He
believes that “No one is a self -made”. In every achievement or success, there is something
behind that and there are people who help you to achieve that success. His perfect example are
his parents, Wilfredo and Lerna. They became his biggest inspiration in everything he has right
now. From the moment he told about it, I suddenly think about my parents, and their sacrifices
for me. I also want my success as the payback for everything they’ve done to me. Now I’m still
in the process, they are my strength to keep on going to attain the success I always dreaming. I’ll
also never forget what Mr. Jeric said, “If you really want to help the country, make yourself
successful first”. I’m not sure if was how he exactly say it but that was the thought.
