OVERALL REFLECTION ON UHMT 1012

First of all I would like to say thank you to Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) for
accepting as one of many as their student. This also goes towards my lecturer for this subject,
Dr. Marlina, as she is the one who carried us during this pandemic with the online classes
which is the first time that I experience it. Thirdly I also want to say thank you to all my
teammates that help me during the group project that we did during this semester. I couldn’t
thank you enough for every sacrifice that they had to go through to get through this semester.
Lastly, I would want to say congratulation to myself because I am able to handle this
semester until the end with valiant effort and with motivation to success. By the end of this
reflection I will share everything I’ve learned which had bring the graduate access attributes
inside of me.

In my opinion, this course, UHMT1012 is a good course because it helps me with my soft
skills such as communication. This can be related when I am able to communicate with my
teammates which is my friends on our task together. Especially when we having an online
class and no face to face with them. As we doing the task together, I also tried to make
friends with them so that they feel more easier to work with. Not only that, communication
skills also come in handy when there is presentation day. For example, the presentation for
our group project and also group presentation. Seeing towards the end, I can say that my
communication skills improved a lot during this semester.

Moving forward, UHMT1012 also help me to improve my thinking skills. What does this
mean is I am able to convey my ideas towards the project I’ve worked on with my friends
such as our project. Me and my friends shared their ideas on what should we do for our
project before this semester ends. Some of them gave ideas on making a competition, making
a charity work, and many more. But after all of that, we all agree on making a webinar about
saving money. Thus “Saving Making Living” was born. After we got our project idea we all
went to many things such as preparation for the day either its Google Meet, E-certificate and
many more to make this project a success. Our speaker Yan Jia Mei also been a great help on
making awareness towards why we should start saving money from now on. I would like to
say thank you towards my group teammates because they helped a lot from the start until the
end of the project.

After that, this course also introduced me to scholarship skills which are ability to seek and
manage relevant information from a variety of sources. This can be proven with my
individual assignment. This is my first time writing until 1500 words, which was so hard at
first. The topic I’ve chosen was about “The Problems with Modern Society About Racism”,
which I had done my research on the internet about it. I also read the E-Book “So you want to
talk about race” by Ijeoma Oluo. The book tells you how hard it has been for the people with
different skin to live in a society that have less awareness about the lifestyle of the people
with different skin. I’m grateful for the book because it open my eye about the situation that
we live in now. Not only that, I did my search on the internet as well to help me with my
assignment. After a few search and days went by, I am finally able to complete my
assignment and turn in my assignment in Turnitin. Turnitin is a good website where you can
check how much plagiarism in my assignment. Luckily mine was only 2%. But overall the
skills that I’ve got really comes in handy when I am in awe.

Next, this course also taught me about leadership and have more teamworking skills. Based
on what I’ve learned, a leader is someone who leads a group of people to a certain goal
whereas teamworking skills is the ability for a group of people to work together to complete a
certain goal. I want to talk about leadership qualities that I achieved during this semester
which is for every time that we had groupwork. During this learning at home situation, its
really hard to keep track about what our groupmates doing either they are doing their work or
not. So, my responsibility as a member, I will remind them about the work every day so that
they would update me with their progress. With this also we will enhance our teamworking
skills. I would say that doing work while not seeing face to face is really hard especially the
work that involve a lot of work. But after all We’ve managed to pull through and did the
impossible. Other leadership quality is having to trust your groupmate and listen to what they
have in mind. This is important so that our work goes smoothly without any hitch and also
improve the quality of our work.

I would say, that this is hardest part of getting ready, which is getting able to adapt with any
situation. Adapting with something new is no easy task for anyone. It would take them days,
months, years, maybe never. Luckily for me I am just a little bit shy but still able to
communicate. I was really happy on getting into UTM, but it was really sad that Covid-19
hits our country making it unable for anyone to go anywhere, especially to university, so we
had to stay at home. What’s making it even harder that I couldn’t see my classmates so there
is really big gap with us communicating at first. But it wouldn’t be long until we solved our
problem, after getting all the people into Whatsapp group we communicate with each other. I
was also trying to find some friends, which I did when I invite them into a Discord server.
What is discord? Discord is an app where you can communicate your friends via chat or
voice chat, can even share your screen any many more. I used this medium to talk a lot with
my coursemate. Communication isn’t the only thing I’ve had to adapt, thus there is one more
thing is the lifestyle of being a university student. This is the first time I’ve been introduced
to many workloads such as assignment, quizzes, test and many more. But like always, I
manage to pull through because I am able to adapt with it.

Lastly, I would say the interesting skill that I’ve got is enterprising skills. Why is this unique
is because you are able to experience on how does entrepreneur thinks on how what he would
create or do to get his business going. My group had done a smart watch that can tell your
health status. Why did we do a smart watch and why is it different from the other smart
watch. This was the question that was asked towards us. I can say the reason we doing a
smart watch is we want to target every age either they are young or old to use our watch and
to take care of their health especially with this pandemic, we want to avoid other diseases to
get through our body. Not just that, what is different with this watch is our software. It came
with body health checkup, which reminds you when is your next checkup, how much calories
that you need to eat today, water intake, and much more. Overall, it was really fun doing this
little entrepreneurship as it let us to gain some knowledge on how it works out there.

For last and for all, I would like to thank you Dr. Marlina for letting me to take a chance on
gaining the graduate attributes that can help us in the future. Her class had been interesting
because she tried her best not to make the online class boring with the quizzes, videos, and
also infographics to teach us more about the graduate success attributes. Here also I want to
thanks my groupmates for being there for me and trusting me until the end. They are really
creative people where they have their own special abilities that makes the groupwork much
easier. Last but not least, my outmost thank you goes towards my parents that have been
supporting me at home with providing me the basic necessity that a human. They are able to
understand my situation with me learning at home and able to give me anything that I ask. In
conclusion of my reflection of this course UHMT1012, I could say that I’ve had achieved the
goal of this class where I am able to grasp all the soft skills and technical skills that had been
offered here in UTM. I would want to end this reflection with a quote from an anime, “Life is
not a game of luck. If you want to win, work hard.” – Sora, No Game No Life. What this
means is we should never wait for the opportunity to comes to us, rather we should be the one
who search for the possibility to achieve success. Thank you.
