What were the best and worst parts of the senior project/senior seminar?

The best part of my senior project was hearing what advice and suggestions the current high
school students and staff have for the upcoming freshman. This was interesting to me because I
realized how many things I have learned over the years that would have been nice to hear from
the beginning of my high school career. I also realized that high school really does go by fast and
that made me want to cherish the last few weeks of high school even more.

The worst part of my senior project was choosing a project and committing to it. I struggled with
this because there were a lot of things I wanted to do, but not a lot I was able to commit and fully
do. I would come up with an idea and then realize that it was too big of a stretch for my time
period or too little of a stretch. I would say I struggled with time management as well, which put
me behind initially. I was able to overcome this and completed my project!

List three things you now know after completing your senior project.
1. I know that educating people is something that surprisingly sparked my interest more so
than I thought it would. I knew I liked to talk and help out, but I have never educated
others in this manner before. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I know that this is something I
could see myself incorporating into my future career.
2. I now know many new computer skills and how to create a video online. Before
completing this project I knew almost nothing on how to create a video on a computer. I
can now confidently say that I know how to not only create a video, but add effects and
change different computer settings as well to add to the video's quality and content.
3. I know that I am capable of anything I set my mind to. When I started this project I really
was not extremely thrilled or motivated to complete the video, but as soon as I really
started to put in the work, it became fun and something I wanted to do, rather than
something I needed to do. I know I can continue to shift my view on different things to
push through and get things done.
What aspect of the senior project/senior seminar stretched you the most? How did
you feel about and react to this challenge?
The aspect of my senior project that stretched me the most was time management and working
on a computer. Time management was something that I had to really focus on because of how
busy I am. It was a struggle for me to balance my school life and personal life. This is something
that I learned to adapt too, but still am learning how to fully manage. The other stretch for me
was working on a computer. I am someone who is not technologically advanced at all and hate
staring at a screen for long periods of time. This was something that I had to accept and
overcome to give it all to my project. To help me overcome this challenge I broke up the time
periods as much as I could but also found that listening to music really helped the time go by
faster. It was honestly just a matter of trial and error as well as time.
How has the senior project/senior seminar changed you?
Senior seminar has really improved my confidence in my everyday struggles as well as in the
classroom. As we did budgeting and other activities I realized that I knew more than I thought I
did which gave me a boost in my confidence. I saw potential in myself knowing that I can do
“adult” things better than I give myself credit for. This newfound confidence gave me confidence
to help others more as well, which ties back to my found liking of educating.
Has this experience changed your future plans?
Going into this year/semester I was pretty set on majoring in nursing. The further along I got in
my project and closer I got to graduation, I started to really second guess my career choice. I
have always struggled with getting injured very easily, but have loved the medical field and now
education which confused me a bit. With that in mind I decided that nursing probably is not the
career for me. I have decided to major in business administration and minor in medicine for the
best of both worlds!
What would you do differently if you had to do the whole senior project/senior
seminar process again?
I would definitely get ahead of the game rather than just making it through. I wish I
would have been more prepared and motivated for everything. This was a busy year for me, but I
wish I would have prioritized my project more.
What advice do you have for next year's seniors?
I would say to get ahead of the game and just do it. Mistakes are totally okay! Document
everything and just enjoy your senior year. Stress is normal, but try and relax as well. Senior year
is ultimately what you make it.
What grade would you give yourself for your senior project and justification do you
have for that grade?
I would give myself an A. I believe that I deserve an A because even with missing a lot of school
and going through a lot of struggles I completed my project thoroughly. I also think that I did
everything required well and some above that. I believe that I have proved my grade through my
work and attitude.
