An Essay on the Inspiration to Become an Engineer (Part 02)

First thing in the morning, I wrote down everything I needed to do that day on a sheet of clean, white
paper so I wouldn't waste time stressing about forgetting anything. Therefore, I try to keep my day
organized according to this list so that no time is wasted. Every second matters, therefore this motivates
me to make the most of my time in meetings and to avoid turning chance encounters into reunion
parties. Therefore, there are times when I need to say no to something, despite the fact that doing so is
difficult for most people but, in my opinion, yields huge benefits. My nights used to be spent tweeting,
Facebooking, or watching dramas (I am a drama addict), but now I use that time to prepare for
upcoming examinations and labs or to brush up on material from recently-completed lectures. An
assignment for my Professional Engineering classes, for instance, gives my evening purpose. Even
though it took some getting accustomed to, I now spend 15 minutes writing an essay instead of 30
minutes watching drama.

Engineers are not only there to satisfy their own needs, but those of society at large as well, since they
are the ones who will help people achieve a higher quality of life. They need to be aware of the goals
and tasks associated with the work they are now doing. My challenge, though, is making the move from
a school setting to a university one. The method of instruction is completely different; you are on your
own to ensure your own success in every lesson and ensure that you fully comprehend the material
covered. This rumor has been floating about since I was in high school, and it has always given me the
creeps. However, I owe a great deal of gratitude to the current university students who helped me
understand the college experience and begin preparing for it much earlier in life. Even though I still feel
the typical freshmen apprehension, I know that getting up and helping oneself first is the best way to
quickly adjust to college life.

As a result, for the last three months, I've been dealing with this issue by constantly preparing for the
following lesson by doing a brief review. At the very least, I need to know what I can expect to study in
the next lectures so that I can hone my skills in that area. Since I have to know my subject well in order
to link it with the subject's recent application in the world, my friends and I formed a study group and
debate some difficult subjects to help us learn more about the topic in depth. In order to ensure that our

conversations are on the right track, we shall double check our findings with the instructor or more
senior students as needed.

However, before I can get to that point, I need to train myself to follow this new routine, since it is the
way to become a professional engineer, especially because there are so many things that may easily
derail my good mood and lead me to lose focus. When I allow myself to become distracted, it might take
up to an hour for me to recover (unfortunately it is normally caused by watching drama). What really
matters is how you transform such interruptions into actual progress.
