Cinnarizine

Use of medication:

Cinnarizine is an antihistamine helps to prevent and treat nausea and vomiting that is associated with
motion sickness. This medicine is also used in the management of inner ear-balance disorders such as
vertigo (dizziness with sensations of spinning), nausea experienced by people with Meniere’s disease (a
disorder of the inner ear) and symptoms caused by poor blood flow to the brain or limbs.

Other side effects include any of the following: nausea, vomiting, stomach discomfort or pain, tiredness,
excessive sweating, weight gain. Inform your doctor if any of these side effects do not go away or are
severe, or if you experience other side effects.

Dos and don’ts:

Cinnarizine may cause drowsiness. If affected, do not drive or take part in any activity in which you need
to be alert.

This medicine should be taken together with food or immediately after a meal.

Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children.

Drug-food or drug-drug interaction:

Inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any of these medicines:

medicines to treat depression e.g. tranylcypromine, bupropion

medicines for sleep disorder e.g. midazolam, diazepam

Always notify your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics
such as traditional Chinese medicines, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription.

Avoid alcohol. Alcohol intake may worsen the sedative effects caused by Cinnarizine.

What to do when patient missed a dose:

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed
dose and return to your normal dosing schedule. DO NOT double a dose under any circumstances.

Max dose per day:

Take Cinnarizine exactly as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not
take more or less than instructed by your doctor. Cinnarizine 25mg 3 times a day
