1. Analyze the safety and security of region 12, do you think it is safe to visit the region?
2. Research and list at least 3 safety measures of region 12 in terms of tourism. From your list,
analyze how can you improve their safety and security measures if you were the Tourism Officer
Director of the region.

Answers:

1. To be honest, there’s a serious risk of terrorist attacks and kidnappings in the region
12. Bombs causing deaths and injuries have exploded in public areas of major
centers, Cotabato and Kidapawan. Clashes occur between rebel groups and security
forces (PNP, AFP, SAF). These incidents often result in deaths and property
destruction. Innocent tourist/locals have occasionally been taken hostage. Armed
conflict between government forces and violent groups has occurred. Rebels have
kidnapped several foreigners in this region. Even though it has a tight protocol of
security it is not 100% secured. If I were a tourist, I will not visit this region even
though it has good tourist destination because I am concerned about my safety.

2. The following are the safety measure that needs to be followed when travelling to
region 12: stop at checkpoints, avoid crowded places, and always travel with
identification. If I were the Tourism Officer Director these are the major protocols
because region 12 is known for the danger brought by the PNP SAF VS. ABU
SAYAF war, it is important to have check points anywhere in the region to check if
they are armed or harmless to travel and to minimize the possibility of danger. Avoid
crowded places because as I observe in the news, most of the crowded places
happened the suicide bombing and innocent people are vulnerable of this scenario,
just be aware of crowded places and know the hotline number of the police station
also it is necessary to have police officers around the crowded places to maintain
security. Always travel with identification, legit identification because some are using
fake ID and it is important to have identification card to know who the tourist in case
of emergency, if something bad happen the LGU and the Department of Tourism will
acknowledge your presence that you visited the region and it is easier to contact your
relatives.
