To become a better leader is a lifelong process.

The Difference between Leadership & Management:


Manager:
- Focus on things (Resources)
- Do things right (Efficiency)
- Plan
- Organize
- Direct
- Control
-Follows the rules
Leaders:
- Focus on people (Develop)
- Do the right things (Effectiveness)
- Inspire
- Influence
- Motivate
- Build
- Shape entities, entities (organization or company)

Planning between Manager and Leader:


Manager:
-Planning
-Budgeting
-Sets targets
-Establishes detailed steps
-Allocates resources

Leader:
-Devises strategy
-Sets direction
-Creates vision

Organizing between Manager and Leader:


Manager:
-Creates structure in organizations
-Job descriptions
-Staffing
-Hierarchy
-Delegates
-Training

Leader:
-Gets people on board for strategy
-Communication
-Networks

Directing Work:
Leader:
-Empowers people
-Cheerleader

Manager:
-Solves problems
-Negotiates
-Brings to consensus

Controlling:
Manager:
-Implements control systems
-Performance measures
-Identifies variances
-Fixes variances

Leader:
-Motivate
-Inspire
-Gives sense of accomplishment
From compare standard to performance, the statistic called standard deviation/
variance.

How to influence process getting well.
-Inspiring vision = leader
-Training coaching = Developing
- Follower efforts = motivating
-Followers skills = competency

Example like:
Teacher is Inspiring vision and Students is follower efforts
Teacher must give all clear explanation.
The effort is motivation.

-Leadership effectiveness
Objective forms
- Sales, net profits, profit margin, market share, return on investment, return on assets,
productivity, cost per unit of output, costs in relation to budgeted expenditures, and
change in the value of corporate stock.
Subjective forms:
-Ratings, obtained from the leader’s superiors, peers, and subordinates
-Follower’s attitudes and perceptions of the leader. (Motivated like in the class)
-Leader’s contribution to the group process perceived by followers
- A successful career as a leader.
CCM:
1. Characters (Treats personality value)
2. Competencies (Skills and knowledges and ability)
3. Motivation to lead.
