WARNING!
• After the UPS has been electrically wired, do not start it up. Start-up is
commisioned to APC-authorized personnel only.
• All electrical power and control wiring must be installed by a qualified
electrician and comply with local and national codes.
• When connected, the UPS contains energy from both AC and DC sources.
Hazardous voltage from batteries may be present even when the unit is
disconnected from the power source. Follow Total Power Off Procedure to
completely de-energize the system (see Total Power Off procedure section).
• Remove all conductive jewelry such as chains, watches, and rings before
handling Battery Units and Power Modules.
• Battery Units and Power Modules do not contain serviceable parts. Only APC
authorized personnel may open Battery Units and Power Modules.
• Do not dispose of batteries in a fire, as they may explode. Do not mutilate
batteries, as released electrolyte is harmful to the skin and eyes and may be
toxic.
• For configurations including customer-supplied external batteries, refer to
manufacturer’s battery installation and maintenance instructions.
• When handling batteries, use tools with insulated handles, and wear insulated
gloves and boots. Do not lay tools or metal objects on top of batteries.
• When replacing batteries, replace with the same number and type as installed.
WARNING!
Before electrical installation begins, verify that the UPS is in the Total Power Off
mode by following this procedure.

Notes
Recommended source connections.
1. Input electricity to be provided from a dedicated, grounded 4-wire star (Wye) power supply
source with a grounded neutral.
2. If a grounded 3- wire power supply source is present, a Delta to star (Wye) isolation transformer
on UPS input is required.
3. Ensure clockwise voltage phase rotation (L1, L2, L3 or RST).
Recommended current protection.
4. Mains input: 200 Amp 3-pole AC circuit breaker or a 200 Amp gL fuse with a withstand short-
circuit current rating of 30 kA.
5. Bypass input: 125 Amp gL fuse.
Recommended current protection (single mains configurations).
6. Mains input: 200 Amp gL fuse.
Recoomended output (single and dual mains).
7. 125 Amp 3-pole AC circuit breaker or a 125 Amp gL fuse with a withstand short-circuit current
of 30 kA.
8. Neutral wires: rate for 173% output phase current if feeding all switch mode power supply loads
without power factor corrections.
Recommended wiring for 30oC temperature environments (single and dual mains
systems)
All cables must comply with IEC/EN 60364-4-4-41 and local electrical regulations.
Neutral Wires: rate for 173% of output phase current if feeding all switch mode power supply loads without
input power factor corrections.
WARNING!
This is a Class A UPS product. In a domestic environment, this product may cause
radio interference, in which case, the user may be required to take additional
measures.
WARNING!
The UPS system has no built-in disconnection devices for AC output and DC input.
When installing the UPS system, ensure that disconnection devices are provided as
separate parts.
CAUTION!
For customer-supplied external batteries, overcurrent protection and disconnecting
device for the battery circuits must be provided by the customer.
Make sure the UPS is in its location of use before wiring begins.
Note
CAUTION!
Do not move the UPS after the stabilizing feet have been lowered, or equipment
damage may occur.
Punch holes as required and reinstall panel before mounting wiring hardware.

As the neutral from AC mains input and AC bypass input is hardwired internally in the
UPS, it is not necessary to install a jumper between the 2 neutral connections in single
mains installations.
Note
The UPS must be connected to either a dry contact or an external 24 VDC source.
The Emergency Power Off (EPO) circuit is considered a Safety Extra Low Voltage (SELV) circuit. A
SELV circuit is isolated from primary circuits through an isolating transformer and designed so that
under normal conditions, the voltage is limited to 42.4 VAC peak or 60 VDC. SELV circuits must be
isolated from all primary circuits. Do not connect any circuit to the EPO terminal block unless it can
be confirmed that the circuit is a SELV circuit. If an external 24 VDC source is used, this source must
comply with the SELV requirements.
EPO switch wiring must comply with local and national codes.
Note
The UPS is designed for both dual and single mains installations. Follow the instructions below to
install the UPS in a dual mains installation:
CAUTION!
Power terminal lug diameter is 10 mm, torque value: 25 Nm.
CAUTION!
Ensure clockwise phase rotation and neutral location.
Route all power input wires (Mains and bypass) through the supplied choke and attach choke
with strips.
Connect power input and output wiring to terminals as shown. Connect either one cable lug on
each busbar or two on each - one from the front and one from the rear of each busbar (see wire
Proceed with ground connections as shown. Feed ground wire through provided ferrite beads.
Feed DC cables through the chase nipple in the left side of the UPS and into the Battery
Enclosure.
Connect the provided EPO cable to the EPO port in the UPS. Feed the cable through the chase
nipple into the Battery Enclosure and attach it to the EPO port as illustrated.

The UPS is designed for both single and dual mains installations. Follow the instructions below for a
single mains installation:
CAUTION!
Power terminal lug diameter is 10 mm; torque value: 25 Nm.
CAUTION!
Ensure clockwise phase rotation and neutral location.
Remove brackets on the L1, L2, L3 Mains Input and on L1, L2, L3 Bypass Input. Save brackets
for later conversion to dual mains if applicable.
Route input wires through the supplied choke and secure the choke with the 4 strips (one in each
corner).
Attach the 3 copper brackets L1, L2. and L3 (shipped in plastic bag in the cable-land area of the
UPS), using the provided bolts and nuts as illustrated.
Connect cables to the AC mains input busbars, using the provided bolts and nuts.
Proceed with ground connections as shown. Feed ground wire through provided ferrite beads.
Feed DC cables through the chase nipple in the left side of the UPS and into the Battery

CAUTION!
Do not install modules in the UPS.
Use following procedure to verify that the UPS has been wired properly:
Measured voltage must be between 200 and 250. If not, stop! Verify correct wiring
(correct location of N) from the power source to the input wiring connections. Repeat
Note
this step.
Record voltages between:
Mains Input:
L1 and N: _________ L2 and N: ________ L3 and N: _______
5 4. Verify clockwise phase rotation (L1, L2, L3 or RST) using a phase rotation meter.
5 5. Turn on the System Enable Switch. Wait 1 minute for the system to self test. Ignore
display warning (fault light will be on).
5 6. Test the EPO operation (applicable to installations with EPO switches only). The
System Enable Switch should trip to the Stand-By position, and the system should
shut down completely. If not, check the connections and the EPO switch to ensure
that they are installed and functioning correctly. For installations with Battery
Enclosures, the DC disconnect should trip to the OFF position at the EPO test.
5 7. Successful completion of steps 1 through 6 indicates that the UPS wiring is
correctly installed and functioning correctly. Turn off breakers and switches and
shut down utility power to the system input. See Total Power Off Procedure.
If a problem occurs, note UPS serial# (to the left of the XR Communication Card) and
date purchased before calling Customer Support.
Note
WARNING!
Ensure Total Power Off before removing side panel (see Total power OFF
procedure).
Use 5-m standard Cat 5 Data cable (supplied). If cable length is inadequate, a longer
Cat 5 cable, or couplers, can be used (not supplied). Maximum length of standard CAT
5 data cable: 50 m.
