Subject: Approval of requested Amendment for research study entitled Preterm Infant Care Practice
in Neonatal Care Units of Tertiary Hospitals in Kathmandu: Parents and Nurses'
Perspective. (Reg. no:183 /2019)

Dear Ms. Shrestha,

The meeting of Expedite Committee of Nepal Health Research Council held on 4 November 2020 discussed the
amendment requested on 31 October 2020. The meeting has approved the following amendment in above
mentioned study:

1. Change of the study title to "Preterm Infant Care Practice in Neonatal Care Units of Selected Hospitals
of Nepal: Nurses and Parents' Perspectives" as there has been addition of study sites.
2. Change of study design to exploratory sequential mixed method design in order to develop valid
instruments for quantitative data collection as extreme error was found in self-administered
questionnaire response by the nurses in the pilot study.
3. Addition of observational structured checklist to the quantitative data collection methods as
mismatched finding in some· aspects of care practice of nurses was found through focus group
discussion and self-administered questionnaire. Therefore, this observation method is planned to obtain
valid measurement of the actual care practice situation of the nurses.
4. Addition of two study sites, namely, Pokhara Academy of Health Science, Pokhara, K aski and
Lumbini Provincial Hospital, Butwal, Rupandehi. This is because of COVID-19 pandemic situation
which made it difficult to start the data collection of quantitative phase timely and, now, it is being
difficult to fulfill -the required sample size of parents of preterm infants in the neonatal care units.
Therefore, increasing study setting might help to complete the study within allocated time
