Biology is the branch of science concerned with the study of life. The discipline is dynamic, diverse and expanding with the integration of new
molecular approaches, information technology and concerns for the environment. The Biology department has designed a curriculum that builds on a
core of biology and supporting courses for students who: (1) seek careers in industry and state or federal agencies, (2) wish to prepare for secondary
school teaching, or (3) desire to enter graduate and professional schools. This B.S. degree requires a total of 120 units, which includes: General
Education, 40 units in biology courses, 34 units of supporting courses in chemistry, physics, and mathematics, an upper-division writing course and an
exit exam on biology in the spring semester of the senior year. All courses must be passed with a "C" (2.0) or better.
The four concentrations are:
Cell and Developmental Biology
Ecology and Evolutionary Biology
Marine Biology Molecular Biology and Biotechnology
Plant Biology
FOR TRANSFER STUDENTS: The Biology department recommends completion of the following courses for the major prior to transferring to Cal State
Fullerton:
**One year of lower-division Biology core courses: BIOL 151 and BIOL 152
**One semester of Calculus: MATH 150A and MATH 150B
**One year of general Chemistry
