EXPECTATIONS:
The purpose of this module is to recognize the difference of good manners and right
conduct.
Difference between good manners and right conduct

The Good Manners

“Courtesy, Politeness or having good manners are all about respecting others and
yourself.”

What are Good Manners?

• Good manners are a set of behaviors which mark someone as a civilized and
cultured member of a society.
• Manners are usually taught from a very young age, with some people receiving
additional training in etiquette, formal rules of conduct which apply to a variety of
situations.

Difference between Manners and Etiquette

Etiquette
• Etiquette is a code of polite conduct based on social acceptance and efficiency.
• Just as there are traffic laws to create smooth transportation flow and prevent
collisions, so there are societal rules designed to facilitate positive human exchanges
and reduce conflict.

Manners
• Manners are polite behaviors that reflect an attitude of consideration, kindness
and respect for others.
• You may not have been taught how to make proper introductions, but a kind
person knows better than to belittle or embarrass another person in public or
private

Ethics
What does it derived from?
 It derived from Greek word ‘ethicos’ meaning characters and manners
 Character of a person expressed write or wrong conduct of action
 Set of moral principles prescribing code, explains what is good and right or bad
and wrong.

Difference between Values, Moral and Ethics


Values: Values are the rules by which we make decisions about right and wrong
good and bad. They also tell us what are important or and useful when we are
loosing some quality or another.

Morals: Morals have social element to values and it have a very broad acceptance.
Morals are far more about good and bad than other values. We thus judge others
more strongly on morals than values. A person can be described as immoral, yet
there is no word for them not following values.

Ethics: The philosophical study of moral values and rules. Motivational based on
ideas of right and wrong.

Trustworthy
• Be honest, reliable and ethical in all your dealings
• Don’t steal, misuse or abuse company’s property or things
• Refuse to cheat, lie, deceive, manipulate, exploit or take advantages of others.

Respect
• Give value and honour to all
• Be courteous, polite and friendly to all

Responsibility
• Show initiative
• Be loyal
• Improve your potentialities and learn new skills
• Be honest to your commitments12

Fairness
• Be honest and fair in your doing
• Share your knowledge ideas and skills with others

Caring
• Take time to help others
• Express gratitude
• Show your concerns for others

Citizenship
• Take care of others property and public.
• Be a role model for others

The Right Conduct

Right conduct is living in a moral and ethical way in the absolute sense rather than
by the standards of any particular time or society.

That act or exertion which do good to others, or that act for which one doesn't has to
feel shame should never be done.

BINGO : This is a Bingo to discuss good habits & manners with children. Along with
playing the Bingo at every call the teacher can ask students to comment on the
phrase called out. She can also discuss with them contexts in which these manners
would be relevant. These discussions would help children internalize these good
habits.
