Adnan Syed was arrested and was charged with First Degree
Murder.
December 1999
His first trial, ended 3 days with a mistrial after the jurors
heard Adnan's attorney speaking with the judge about how
he implied she was a liar.
January 2000
Syed's second trial lasted 6 weeks.

February 25 2000
Adnan Syed was convincted of the murder of Hae Min Lee,
along with kidnapping, false imprisonment, and robbery. He
was sentenced to life in prison plus 30 years. ADNAN SYED
 2003 - 2015
2003
Adnan had requested an appeal of his conviction, which was
denied.
2010
He later made an appeal in 2010 for post conviction relief based
on innefective assistence of counsel, which was was based on
his lawyers failure to investigate alibi witness. This was later
denied as the judge said his counsel used it as strategy.
2014
The well known Serial Podcast made it's first 2 seasons on
this case, and was focused on proving Adnan's innocence.

2015
The Maryland Court of Special Appeals finally approved of
Adnan's appeal on the admisability of the testimony of Asia
McClain. The case was remanded the case to the Baltimore City
Circuit Court in May 2015. Nov 2015, a judge ordered a a post
conviction hearing to determine his eligibility for a new trial. ADNAN SYED
 2016 - 2019
2016
On June 2016, Judge Welch granted Syed request for a new
trial and vacated his conviction, he ruled that Gutierrez
"rendered ineffective assistance when she failed to cross-
examine the state expert on cell towers.

2018
The Maryland court of appeals upheld Syed's request for a new
trial. The Court of Special Appeals' opinion said that his counsel
failed contact a witness, this person could've called doubt in the
mind of at least one of the jurors.

2019
March 2019, a The Maryland Court of Appeals made a split
4-3 ruling that reversed the findings of the lower courts.
While the court agreed Adnan's lawyer was inefficient, it was
not enough to cast any doubt on the conclusion of his
second trial. On Nov 2019, his trial was denied. HAE MIN LEE

Rabia Chaudry, began producing a podcast in 2015. She says she
is Adnan's childhood friend and strongly believes his innocence.
The podcast involved a detailed examination of the State of
Maryland's case against Adnan Syed.

Investigation Discovery aired a one hour special based on new
analysis from podcasts.
2016 Books
Asia McClain wrote a book titled Confessions of a Serial Alibi.
Rabia Chaudry also wrote one called, Adnan's Story: The Search
for Truth and Justice After Serial
