8.1 General
The industry standard for messages is based on IATA Standard Messages transmitted on the SITA network.
SITA (Société Internationale de Télécommunica-tions Aéronautiques) is an organisation by the airlines for
the airlines. SITA offers a number of services to the airline industry such as code-sharing, clearinghouse
services, various operational services etc.
In communications we are primarily interested in the SITA network for transmitting messages. In general,
SITA messages are faster and more reliable than AFTN, commercial telex and/or fax.
8.2.1 General
Aircraft movement messages serve the purpose of controlling punctual and regular operation of all flights;
they are also basis for co-ordinating aircraft and crew rotation and for the registration of flight duty hours for
the technical and commercial department.
Stations report departures, arrivals and delays by sending a teletype departure, arrival or delay message as
appropriate.
The aircraft movement messages shall be dispatched immediately after departure or arrival of a flight or
whenever a delay occurs.
The following shall be observed:
• except SITA-addresses no internal addresses shall be used
• the formats shown shall strictly be followed
• corrected versions always have to be sent as complete messages; in this case the remark "corr.
version" has to be stated under SI = supplementary information.
• For destinations for which a 3-letter airport code has been published by IATA in addition to a city code,
the airport code shall be used within the text of all operational telexes.
• Primarily it is the task of the handling agent to transmit MVT and other traffic related messages. This
obligation is included in the IATA SGHA (Standard Ground Handling Agreement).
• MVT shall be dispatched to all stations concerned with the flight.

In this case the Commander contacted the handling agent at MXP and informed that his arrival time will
deviate from the originally stated. The handling agent then forwards the information to all concerned.

8.4.1 General
Delay codes are used to document delay reasons and/or other irregularities.
IATA stipulates that numeric codes are preferred, but in our part of the world letter codes are more common.
8.4.2 Codes
The codes 01-08 are reserved for the operators internal use.

8.5 Loadmessages
8.5.1 General
The load message shall be transmitted immediately after departure:
• For all multi-sector flights (except last sector)
The LDM shall be addressed:
• To the operator
• To the station enroute
• To the alternate station if landing at the next station appears doubtful
• From the scheduled destination to the alternate station if the aircraft is diverting during flight
Due to local requirements additional addresses may be necessary.
The load message provides details required for load planning and for the preparation of the loading
instruction as well as the load & trim sheet on the transit station. All data in the LDM must correspond with
the actual loading of the aircraft. All last minute changes must be taken into account.
