Until now we were building

quattro® for our cars.
With the Audi Q7 we’ve
built a car for quattro.

Sometimes, a single question is enough to change the world: why can’t

you enjoy the outstanding driving features of an all-wheel drive in a
passenger car? This thought occurred to the Audi engineers while
they were out testing the four-by-four Iltis. From this simple question
came the idea for a permanent all-wheel drive suitable for standard
production: quattro® was born.

A success story began – and still continues today: with the Audi Q7.
A new vehicle concept from the ground up, which, just like the quattro
drive itself, has been born from the wealth of ideas, the courage and
the passion of Audi’s engineers.

To take you on further, the Audi Q7 skilfully uses all of its power. Its
innovative quattro® drive concept takes care of this. The permanent
all-wheel drive distributes the drive forces variably to the front and
rear axle. Always just as it is required for the particular driving situation.
This enables superb traction, good grip and impressive propulsion,
both on and off the road.

The Electronic Stabilisation Programme ESP supports quattro® in the Audi Q7. It was especially
extended to include a selectable offroad mode for the Audi Q7. With this, the ESP ensures even
more traction and braking power when off-road – and above all, even more fun.

The optional adaptive air suspension ensures even more independence (standard for Q7 4.2 TDI
quattro and Q7 V12 TDI quattro). This directly intervenes in damping the individual wheels. By
almost eliminating permanent car body movements and automatically reducing rolling or pitching
motions when cornering, braking or starting up, it ensures a comfortable driving feeling and
better grip.

Thanks to TFSI® and TDI technology, the Audi Q7 deploys its tremendous
power and dynamism over practically the entire engine speed range. As a
measure to increase efficiency and reduce consumption and CO₂ emissions,
recuperation is available for all the Audi Q7’s 6- and 8-cylinder engines.
Depending on the engine variant, this ensures a significant reduction of the
CO₂ emissions.

The design of the Audi Q7

The dynamic roof line and high shoulder section bring the
sporty form of a coupé to mind. The powerful front with
distinctive, chrome-framed Audi Singleframe and vertical
chrome struts arouses self-confidence and radiates a sense
of presence. With the strong V-shaped pointed bonnet, the
standard contrasting paint finish, the optional full paint
finish with aluminium-look exterior or the drawn-back head-
lights with daytime running lights – LED technology upon
request – the Audi Q7 is always striving to push forward,
even at a standstill.

Its rear is puristic and succinct at the same time and is equipped
with the characteristic LED rear lights. The bumper with the
integrated underbody protection in conjunction with the encom-
passing tailgate gives the Audi Q7 an impression of high perfor-
mance and power. The large wheels, which underline its overall
performance, add particular accentuation.

freedom. The high-quality cockpit has been designed with the driver in
mind and is colour-coordinated, with the centre console raised and easy
to operate. Large-area application trims and refined decorative elements
in chrome finish give the Audi Q7 that certain extra. A look at the sporty
displays makes you think of just one thing: go!

The luxuriously equipped interior lives up to even the highest demands. Here,
clear and functional shapes are combined with dynamic elegance and exclusive
materials. Inlays in matt finish black or optionally in Aluminium Trigon or
selected woods set visual accents. Together with the fine cloth and leather
upholstery and trim they underline the high-quality appearance of the Audi Q7.

Multifunctionality does not have to be complicated, as the Multi Media Interface (MMI®)
proves. The central control system of the high-performance SUV gives you rapid access
to important vehicle information and functions.

The generous feeling of space is accentuated with the right sound experience. In the
Bang & Olufsen Advanced Sound System, two acoustic lenses are automatically extended
from the dashboard when the system is started, which ensure an exact and true-to-detail
performance on any seat with its precisely aligned horizontal irradiation. More than
1,000 watts and 14 separate loudspeakers provide an outstanding sound experience.

New freedom: the multifunctional seat and loading concept offers you up to
27 different configuration options. So you always have exactly as many seats
and as much loading space as you require.

As an equipment variant you can choose between two or three rows of seats.
Within these equipment variants, you can then choose again: you can equip
the second row with comfort seats, turning the Audi Q7 into a 6-seater, which
is then equipped with an additional generous centre console. Or you decide
on a classic 5- or 7-seater with a bench seat in the second row.

The convenience entry function makes getting in easier, even for the rear seats.
The optionally available panoramic glass roof provides a clear view of the sky.
This electrically operated glass roof reaches to the third row of seats. Thanks
to the low air-drag coefficient the noise level remains very low, even with the
panoramic glass roof open.

Sometimes you just cannot decide what to take with you. The Audi Q7 therefore grants you all the
freedom you could require. Unique in its class, it offers a 775 litre luggage compartment volume
behind the second row of seats. The loading space comprises all of 330 litres when there are seven
people in the vehicle. By folding the rear seats down – all rear seats can be lowered level to the
loading area – the loading volume can be increased to up to 2,035 litres as standard. The generous
loading width of 1.22 m easily offers room for up to four golf bags lying sideways. There is a large
through-load facility located in the second row of seats as standard. When folded down, the loading
area offers enough space to stow, for example, snowboards or skis, quickly and with ease.

On the racing track, our engines

regularly astonish the world.
And that is no different on the road.

2006. The first victory of a racing car with a diesel engine at the legendary Le Mans 24 hours.
The car: an Audi R10 TDI. Audi was able to continue its series of victories in the years 2007,
2008, 2010 and 2011. The Audi Q7 V12 TDI quattro was built using this motor racing ex-
perience: it is the logical evolution of a trail-blazing vehicle. The Audi Q7 V12 TDI quattro
is powered by the most powerful diesel engine of its class and has only one goal: to be the
victor on any terrain.

The first V12 diesel engine in the world in a series production model. Thus begins a
new chapter in the history of the diesel engine. With the 6.0 litre TDI engine, Audi is
once again demonstrating its “Vorsprung durch Technik”. The Audi Q7 V12 TDI quattro
reaches its maximum torque of 1,000 Nm at a mere 1,750 rpm and keeps it stable
up to 3,250 rpm. This means excellent performance is at your disposal from an early
stage and over a wide range. The engine moves the high-performance SUV with
overwhelming supremacy and serenity, without losing its agility: 368 kW accelerate
the Audi Q7 V12 TDI quattro from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.5 seconds.

At the rear, special features include oval tailpipes, LED rear lights and a specially
designed bumper. The stainless steel underbody protection at the front and rear
makes a clearly visible statement.

The wheel arch extensions of the Audi Q7 V12 TDI quattro give it a dominant
and powerful presence. The xenon plus headlights in conjunction with the LED
daytime running lights give the front section an unmistakeable appearance.

rails in matt aluminium round off the imposing appearance.

A glance into the cockpit of the Audi Q7 V12 TDI quattro:

the screen of the standard MMI® navigation plus is posi-
tioned high in the centre console and displays a host of
important information. The leather-covered multifunction
sports steering wheel in 3-spoke design is equipped with
chrome-look shift paddles. The standard electrically adjust-
able sports seats are covered in Verano leather or, on
request, in two-tone Fine Nappa leather; they provide
great support even on challenging roads. Carbon inlays
lend a special look to the centre console and the dash-
board, likewise the aluminium-look pedals. The optional
full leather package even includes a completely leather-
covered dashboard.

The supercharger is a central element in boost pressure

generation. Or, put another way, it ensures outstanding
torque even at low engine speeds. The supercharger is a
highly integrated, mechanical charging module situated
between the two cylinder banks. The rotor unit, the
electrically controlled butterfly valve in the bypass bend

In FSI® technology, the fuel is injected directly
into the combustion chamber and atomised into
a fine spray. This way, the fuel – metered to
almost droplet precision – can be called upon
the millisecond that the engine requires it.
This means better utilisation of the fuel and
ultimately, reduced consumption.
TFSI® technology is employed in the Audi Q7.
It combines the advantages of FSI with a
supercharger, which ensures even better power responsiveness and exceptional power delivery

3.0 TDI engine (180 kW)

One in every two Audi cars sold today is a diesel.
What sounds perfectly normal now was cause
for huge excitement 20 years ago, when Audi
revolutionised the market with the first 2.5 litre
TDI engine. Since then, developments such as
common-rail technology have made TDI even
more efficient. Piezo injectors ensure the fuel is
finely and precisely distributed. Consequently,
since the first TDI, the engines have become
more economical, whilst specific output has
increased.
Choose for yourself how much power you wish to
carry you away in the Audi Q7: a 3.0 TDI quattro
with 150 kW or 180 kW (also available as a
TDI clean diesel quattro) or a 4.2 TDI quattro
with 250 kW.

All the engines comply with the EU5 emissions
standard, the TDI clean diesel quattro even
complies with the EU6 emissions standard, which
does not come into force until 2014. The 6- and
8-cylinder engines are fitted with a recuperation
system which converts kinetic energy into
electrical energy. This increases efficiency and
saves up to 3 % fuel – particularly in city traffic.
Together with the start-stop system in the
3.0 TDI engines that automatically switches
the engine off when the vehicle is at a standstill,
fuel consumption can be significantly reduced.
In addition to the standard catalytic converter
and the diesel particulate filter, the Audi Q7 as
a 3.0 TDI clean diesel quattro has a nitrogen
oxide catalytic converter with AdBlue®* tank.
AdBlue® is a biodegradable additive, small doses
of which are injected upstream of the nitrogen
oxide catalytic converter. Combined with other
innovations such as common-rail technology
and highly efficient exhaust-gas recirculation, a
reduction of the nitrogen oxide emissions by up
to 90 % is achieved.
With the 4.2 TDI quattro with 250 kW, you can
also choose a highly efficient and powerful diesel
engine. The peak torque of 800 Nm and the
running smoothness of the V8 engine impress
both over short and long distances.

With quattro®, we created one of the
best all-wheel drive systems in the world.
Of course, that was not enough for us.
Those who know Audi know quattro®. And once
you have driven with quattro, you do not want to
drive with anything else. Why? Because this drive
puts the engine’s power on the road in such a
convincing way.
quattro is a permanent all-wheel drive. If the
wheels on one axle of the vehicle lose grip on
the road and threaten to spin, then the power
is transferred to the other axle – automatically
and permanently distributed through the centre
differential. The basic distribution is 40 : 60 –
40 % of the power comes from the front axle, 60 %
from the rear. The benefits are better traction
during acceleration and improved safety due to
exceptional grip.
But what makes quattro unique is really the
driving feel. “As if you are stuck to the road”,
some customers say. We put it like this: quattro
gives you a better feel for the road and thus
more safety. The quattro® drivetrain

Can the road communicate with the suspension?
And above all: can the suspension understand
the road? In the Audi Q7 and Audi Q7 V12 TDI
quattro it can – the suspension adapts to the
driving situation and the road (standard from
250 kW) as well as possible. We call it Audi
adaptive air suspension.

tive damping system. Sensors on the body and on
the axles continually monitor the current driving
situation and send information to the system
during the journey. Furthermore, the air springs
guarantee that, even when carrying heavy loads,
the vehicle’s driving characteristics will not be
impaired.
The advantages of the Audi adaptive air suspen-
sion can be felt after just a few metres. And then
most certainly when you drive round a corner or

50 Braking systems
Nothing can stop a top athlete.
Except for a top braking system.
The 18-inch high-performance braking system
in the Audi Q7 takes a powerful hold with its
6-piston fixed callipers on the front axle. A
single-piston floating calliper is used on the rear
axle. The brake discs comprise a cast friction ring
which is connected to the brake disc chamber
by means of steel pins. This so-called floating
mounting ensures that the friction ring remains
tension-free to a major extent, improving stability
under extreme temperature loads. The axial
perforation and cooling channels for internal
ventilation also increase the brake discs’
performance. The use of aluminium not only
reduces the weight of the brake discs, it also
improves the weight balance of the unsprung
masses.

For even more demanding loads, the Audi Q7 V12
TDI quattro is equipped with a 20-inch ceramic
brake¹ with an 8-piston fixed calliper as standard
(optional for 4.2 TDI quattro). With this braking
system, the brake discs on the front axle are
made of a carbon-fibre reinforced ceramic
material. This is based on hard and abrasion-
proof silicon carbide with high-strength carbon
fibres embedded. This combination results in
an enormous abrasion resistance which allows
extremely high mileages to be achieved and at
the same time reduces sensitivity to high thermal
loads. In addition, the material is lighter than
steel discs.

We try to match up to our claim of “Vorsprung
durch Technik” in every aspect of an Audi – such
as in the case of the advanced MMI® – Multi
Media Interface, for example. The MMI is used
to control a wide variety of media in the car, as
well as the navigation system and other conveni-
ence functions.
On request, MMI® navigation plus is available
with 3D map display for the Audi Q7. It allows

technologies. The combination of direct diesel
injection and turbocharging provides high

ates revolutionary infotainment and entertainment
functions and raises the level of both automotive com-
fort and fun to new heights. In the Audi Q7 (and Q7 V12
TDI quattro), online information (such as navigation
with point-of-interest search and Google Earth images
and Street View, weather, news, Audi traffic informa-
tion online1, 2, internet radio3) is transmitted directly
and integrated intelligently into the vehicle via a UMTS
module integrated in the Audi Bluetooth car phone on-
line and the customer’s SIM card. The optional MMI®
navigation plus (Q7 V12: standard) facilitates the use
of these Audi connect services. Thanks to a WiFi hot-
spot, the Internet can be accessed via a mobile end
device from the rear during driving or when the vehicle
is at a standstill.
Important notes: online services are only available in
connection with mobile phone contracts with data
option and only within the range of the respective
mobile networks. Additional costs can be incurred for
the reception of data packages from the Internet,
depending on the terms of your mobile phone con-
tract, particularly when used abroad: because of the
high data volume involved, the use of a data flat rate

Recuperation
With 6 and 8-cylinder models, increasing the genera-
tor voltage converts kinetic energy into usable electrical
energy when the vehicle is coasting or braking. This
energy is then used to assist the generator during sub-
sequent acceleration, saving up to 3 % fuel.
Start-stop system
reduces fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions by
switching off the engine when the vehicle is station-
ary, e.g. at traffic lights. When you want to continue
your journey, you only have to release the foot brake:
the engine starts up again. The system is convenient,
quiet and fast. It can be deactivated at any time via a
switch. (Only for 3.0 TDI quattro 150 kW and 180 kW
as well as 3.0 TDI clean diesel quattro)

converter and diesel particulate filter, the new exhaust
aftertreatment system installed in the model with
TDI clean diesel leads to low exhaust emissions.
Technically speaking, this is achieved by equipment
such as the cylinder pressure regulator, common rail
injection system with piezo technology with 2,000 bar
injection pressure, extremely efficient exhaust gas
recirculation system and nitrogen oxide catalytic con-
verter (DeNOx catalyst) with AdBlue® tank (a bio-
degradable additive, tiny amounts of which are injected
into the catalytic converter). Refill the separate
AdBlue® tank as indicated by the information in the
display of the instrument cluster. We recommend
having the AdBlue tank refilled by your Audi partner
(about every 15,000 km).

This lockable ski box is particularly suitable for winter
holiday use. It offers a large opening angle for easy
loading and can be folded up on both sides. Suitable
for skis up to 2.10 m long. Also included in the range
are a ski and luggage box containing 480 l and a
compact luggage box containing 370 l.
4 Audi Entertainment mobile
The Rear Seat Entertainment of the second generation is
a 9-inch screen with integrated DVD player for installation
on the front seat backrests. Excellent image quality
thanks to digital high resolution screen, high functionality
and numerous connection options, e. g. the separately
available Bluetooth headset. With the new holder for
mobile end devices, it is easy to attach and can also
be used outside the vehicle. Condition: fitting for Rear
Seat Entertainment in the vehicle.
5 Partition grille
With the practical aids such as the partition grilles (long-
ways and sideways), the luggage compartment can be
separated from the rest of the interior and can also
be divided lengthways. The partition grille is easy and
convenient to attach – in other words without drilling.

6 Cast aluminium wheels in 5-arm design, 2-piece¹
The striking feature of the size 9 J x 20 2-piece cast
aluminium wheels in 5-arm design are the titanium-
screwed cast trims. For tyres of the size 275/45 R 20.

7 Bluetooth headset
The headset is the perfect supplement for the Audi
Entertainment mobile. It can be folded up and stored
practically in the bag provided. The rechargeable
batteries can be used for up to 15 hours before
recharging is necessary.
