INSTALLATION GUIDE

Components
Make sure you have the following components before starting this installation procedure.

Recommended antenna* and cable*

Directional antenna N-type cable

(with installation instructions) includes weatherproofing kit
Tools and equipment
you will need:

NOTE:
Harris does not provide
grounding kits. Voltmeter

T1 or E1 test set

Set of screwdrivers

Set of wrenches
Reference Manual and Software
are supplied with the radio.

CAUTION!
To prevent equipment damage and shock hazard due to lightning, you must ensure that antenna
installation and the grounding systems comply with NEC or IEC standards, as well as any
additional local requirements.

CAUTION!
RF output power is set by Harris or authorized distributor. Do not change antennas, cable length
or type. To do so may violate the regulatory rules.
* optional

NOTE:
When assembling the standard 23.5 dBi antenna, for proper alignment and maximum strength, be sure
that the distance from the feed horn (dipole) to the base of the antenna grid measures approximately 16
inches.

STEP 1 Prepare the radio for rack installation.
installation
Rack-mounting brackets may be installed for
flush-mount, 3-inch, or a 5-inch position.

STEP 2 Set up and install the recommended antenna

according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Bring cable in

Leave some slack here.
Min. bending radius:
3.7 in. (95mm)
NOTE:
For installation in a rack, one rack mounting space above and below the radio is required.

STEP 3 Connect power to the radio.

Connect the radio to an office AC outlet or DC power connection

STEP 4
1 Connect signal (data) lines to the radio.

Connect balanced E1 or T1 line here.

Use shielded pairs.

4(ring)/5(tip) - (Tx) output from radio 3(RXD+)/6(RXD-) - input to radio

7/8 - Ground 7/8 - Ground

Connect unbalanced coax E1 line here.
T1 = 100 ohms, E1 = 120 ohms Left: Data IN (Tx), right: Data OUT (Rx)

STEP 5 Turn on power to the radio.

Power switch

STEP 6 Check the receiver’s RSSI voltage level at each end of the hop.
The voltage level must be between
1.4 and 4.5 volts. A voltage level
closer to 4 volts indicates a more
robust system.

Connect voltmeter to yellow (RSSI) and black (GND) test jacks.

STEP 7 Check the BER performance of the hop.

Continues 1. Loopback the T1 (or E1) data at the far end.
next page 2. Using a T1 (or E1) test set, send data to the far end and monitor the BER. There should
be no errors over a 15 minute period.
