Topic: L - LYSINE
COVID-19 PANDEMIC PROTECTION
L-LYSINE TREATMENT: DIET and RESTRICTIONS: Note: please read entire document,
consult your primary care physician for medical advice and interactions with any
current medication or conditions you currently have. DOSAGE: Those who have
symptoms, after awakening , 1 hour before a meal, 1,000mg L-Lysine taken with two
cups of water. Tablets are preferred to capsules but not necessary. 3pm repeat
1,000mg L-Lysine two cups of water. Do not eat for 1 hour. This is starting dose.
If symptoms return before bed, preferable options are eating a snack plate of
either of these food: cheese, papaya, or yogurt, over taking 500mg of L-Lysine.
Another option instead of Lysine before bed would be 10mg of melatonin. CAUTION:
Lysine may interfere with a good night sleep if taken just before going to sleep.
Melatonin is generally well tolerated and a safe effective sleep aid and does help
immune function. Next day repeat morning dose, but afternoon dose can be advanced
earlier in the day if symptoms are returning prior to 3pm. In evenings, increase
Lysine doses by 500mg increment and wait 2 to 4 hours before increasing another
500mg of lysine, or take Melatonin if close to bed. Try not to exceed 2,500mg. Most
manufacturers recommendations and studies have shown that 3,000mg of L-Lysine is
safe to take daily for 6 months. I urge you not to exceed 2,500mg per day, only in
emergencies. At or above 3,000mg per day, 10 to 15% develop a cough. Options are: 1
reduce dose 500mg for next day, you may experience some symptoms due to lack of
lysine intake. 2. Anti-allergic/anti-histamine dose daily. 3. Quercetin or NAC,
400MG per day taken in the evening. 4. Eat 1 to 2 ounces of nuts. ALL nuts have
arginine and will counteract the lysine. Be warned, symptoms may return in force By
day 2 to day 3, you should have figured out your proper dose and should be near
full control of your symptoms. This is the safest way to start Lysine regimen for
acute patients. DIET CHANGE It is important to understand that there are foods that
counteract Lysine. These foods like mentioned earlier like nuts, are loaded with
arginine. These foods will make you symptomatic or your symptoms more intense,
increase duration of your illness. Potential hospitalization. Please follow these
recommendations closely. Foods most preferable to eat, add to every meal if
possible. Plain yogurt, any cheeses, margarine(the highest in lysine ratio),
butter, dairy, beets (with caution), fish and probably most importantly is papaya.
Foods to be eaten in moderate quantities. Mango, apples, figs, peach, avocado,
pineapple, potatoes, chicken, pork, beef. Foods preferred to be eaten in very small
quantities, Tomato soup, oranges, mushroom, any berries, shellfish/crabs, onion,
cucumber, rice, mayonnaise. Dangerous foods that should be avoided. Plantains,
seeds, nuts, orange juice, grape juice, peanut butter, oats, berries, wheat,
onions, garlic, cucumber, tahini and foods and supplements high in FIBER.
