5 Lasting Changes To Expect In The Workplace Post-Covid

3-9-21

After reading the article “5 Lasting Changes To Expect In The Workplace Post-Covid” by

Ashley Stahl, I realized that there’s a lot more changes happening in the work force than I

thought due to the effects of covid. Five changes that we all can expect entering the workforce

post-covid are hybrid and remote work models, video conferencing over phone calls, virtual

conferences and events, increased cyber security, and the move away from major cities and

changes in real estate. The coronavirus pandemic has dramatically altered the workplace. To

slow the virus’s spread and protect employees, many companies have shifted to remote

work, with video calls and instant messaging replacing meetings and break room

conversations. Inaccurate data may affect cybersecurity efforts. Protection against cyber

threats requires companies to work with security firms and between public and private

sectors. Many companies allowed employees to continue to work from home to slow down the

spread of the virus, leading to a significant decrease in traffic to urban centers, downtown

business areas and metropolitan neighborhoods. Reports reveal the pandemic has caused a

large number of cities to move out of the city to rural areas or the suburbs. When the virus had

first started my mother was required to work from home for a period of time in case of a

lockdown. Now she commutes to work with the ability to work from home if needed. With all

of the changes happening in the work force due to covid I noticed that none of the changes
really fit my learning style, and that will be one of the bigger challenges for myself as I enter the

workforce after high school.
