Level: Bachelor Semester – Fall Year : 2009

Programme: B.E. Full Marks : 100
Course: Basic Engineering Physics Time : 3hrs.
Candidates are required to give their answers in their own words as far
as practicable.
The figures in the margin indicate full marks.
Attempt all the questions.

1. a) Define the terms fundamental and derived quantities. Also state and 9
explain Newton's first law of motion with suitable examples.
b) A car has initial velocity of 72 km/h. It is accelerated at 2 m/s. 6
Calculate the final velocity and the distance covered after 3 second.
2. a) What are work, power and energy? Derive the kinetic energy of a 9
body with mass m and moving with velocity v.
b) An object of mass 10 kg oscillates with a period of 2 seconds. If its 6
greatest displacement is 0.4 m, what is its maximum kinetic energy.
3. a) Define the terms angular velocity time period and frequency. Also 9
