Problem: Free Gas at the Pump Intake of Centrifugal Pump:

See below Graph:

We want to check this figure for accuracy and generate a new figure with more
information.

Here is the background information.

= 666 ( Qgas/Qliquid) / Pintake

Where:
Qgas if volumetric flow of gas at the intake conditions of an ESP
Qliquid (same units of Qgas) is the volumetric flow of liquid (oil and water) at the intake
of a submersible pump
Pintake, psia, is the pressure at the intake of a submersible pump
IF  = 1.00 or greater then we say that gas interference is so prevalent that the ESP will
no longer operate on the head curve but at some lesser point on the performance head
curve.

First of all check the plot and see if the % free gas curve is correct. If not then calculate
and plot a curve that is correct. This should be fairly simple. You set the  value to one
and calculate the Qgas / Qliquid and solve for P from the  equation and plot % gas vs. P.

For instance % Gas = Qgas/ (Qliquid + Qgas) x 100.

So Qgas/Qliquid = % Gas/100 x (Qliquid + Qgas) / Qliquid or
Qgas/Qliquid = %Gas/100 x (1.00 + Qgas/Qliquid)

Next assume:
API = 30
Sg = 0.65
Temperature = 150 F

Use FG = Free Gas, bbls-gas/day = Qoil ( GOR – Rs) Bg / 5.615

Bg = 14.7 /Pintake (T+460) Z/ 520.

Qgas/ Qliquid = FG/ ( Qoil x Bo + Qwater) = FG / ( Qoil ( 1.0 + WOR) )

Then do lines of GOR critical (when  = 1.00) for WOR = 0, ½, 1, 2, 5, 10 and plot them
all on the same curve as on the curve above.

Hand in the plot and the calculations. Put % gas curve on one plot and the GOR plots
with the various WOR’s on another plot please.

This will be used by industry so let’s get it right.
