its surface area is increasing at a rate of 2m 2 s 1 . Find the rate of increase at
the same instant of
i) the radius,
ii) the volume.

9. A window consists of a rectangle of width 2 x and height a , surmounted by a


semicircle of diameter 2 x . If the perimeter of the window is P , show that the
area of the window is given by
