1- Analyze the following sentences. Identify sentence type (which are simple, compound and complex
sentences), and also circle the coordinating and subordinating words.

1. The writer of the book thinks that people on welfare are sometimes stigmatized in society.
2. University presidents these days spend much of their time on fund-raising and publicity activities.
3. I queued up for over an hour at the bookstore, but I still could not get the textbook.
4. Mother Theresa, who dedicated her life to helping the poor and needy, died a few years ago.
5. A good boss must have the interest of the team in mind; otherwise, he will not earn their respect.
6. While studying at UW, Jin met an old friend from his hometown and they decided to go out for
dinner together.

2- Paraphrasing these sentences

1- Computer engineering refers to the study that integrates electronic engineering with computer
sciences to design and develop computer systems and other technological devices. Computer
engineering allows professionals to engage in a number of areas such as analyzing and designing
anything from simple microprocessors to highly featured circuits, software design, and operating
system development.
2- Both Civil Engineering and Architecture are involved in planning and designing structures.
However, Architecture focuses more on the spatial functionality and aesthetics of the development
work and is more concerned with the artistry, look, feel and functionality of the design, while Civil
Engineering concentrates on the structural elements of the design, making certain that the structure
can endure normal and extreme conditions.

3-Write a summary of the following passage:

Of the more than 1000 bicycling deaths each year, three-fourths are caused by head injuries. Half of those
killed are school-age children. One study concluded that wearing a bike helmet can reduce the risk of head
injury by 85 percent. In an accident, a bike helmet absorbs the shock and cushions the head. From "Bike
