Significance of the Study

This study hopes to provide information regarding the possible challenges that Non-STEM
graduates may encountered and coping mechanism and its relation to academic performance in in
taking bachelor of science in nursing.

The study will also be conducted to benefit:

 College of nursing: the result of this study will give the college an idea about the current
situation of Non-stem students. They can use the outcome of this study to think of a way on
how to give other treatment to Non- Stem for them to adjust in pursuing their nursing course.

 Clinical instructors: The outcome of the study will help the clinical instructors to understand
their students challenges they’re experiencing and the different coping mechanisms being used
by the non-stem students. This will also help them on being more considerate and
understanding through their students.

Scope and Delimitation

This study aims to determine the challenges encountered and coping mechanism and its relation
to academic performance of Non-STEM graduates.

The respondents of the study will be the second and third year nursing students of Palawan State
University presently enrolled academic year 2021-2022. The researchers will choose a total of 50 non-
stem respondents from 2nd and 3rd year nursing students. The researcher believed that this number of
respondents is enough to assess the validity and reliability of the study.

This study will be conducted on January 25 to February 25, 2021 at the college of Nursing and
Health Sciences, Palawan State University.

The researchers do not include to study 4 th year students because they were not able to study senior
high school due to the circumstances that 3 rd year students are the first batch to the said program. Also,
1st year are not included for the reason that they still do not have clinical duties and RLE. Lastly, the
researcher didn’t include to measure the academic performance of the respondents regarding minor
subjects because this study focuses to measure only the major subjects of Nursing course.
