Quick Kill calculations example.

( for Revision purposes)

Hole depth : 6,500’ MD, 5,700 ‘ TVD. 12 ¼” hole

13 3/8” csg, 68 lb/ft, set at 4,200’ TVD, 4,800’ AHD. Csg ID 12.415”
Leak off determined at 872 psi using 10 ppg mud.

9” DCs, 2 13/16” ID, 350 ft length.

5” DP, 4.276” ID

SIDPP : 290 psi Active mud wt : 10.6 ppg

SICP : 400 psi Kick volume : 20 bbls

SCRPs - @ 30 spm : 120psi

@ 40 spm : 210 psi
@ 50 spm : 320 psi Pump output : 0.123 bbl/stroke

Recommended to kill well at 30 spm

Calculations

Kill Mud Wt (ppg) : KMW = Current MW + (SIDPP/TVD ÷ 0.052)

= 10.6 + (290 / 5,700 ÷ 0.052)
= 11.6 ppg

Initial Circulating Pressure : ICP = SIDPP + SCRP

= 290 + 120 = 410 psi

Final Circulating Pressure : FCP = SCRP x (KMW/OMW)

= 120 x (11.6 / 10.6) = 132 psi

Volumes

Simplest equation is (D2 – d2 ) / 1029 = annular volume (bbl/ft).

Drill stem

5” Drill pipe : 4.276” ID = 0.0178 bbl/ft

6500 – 350 = 6150 ft x 0.0178 = 109.3 bbl

9” Drill collars : 2 .8125” ID = 0.0077 bbl/ft

350 x 0.0077 = 2.7 bbl

Total drill stem volume = 109.3 + 2.7 = 112 bbl

112 ÷ 0.123 = 910 strokes
Annulus -

DC/open hole : (12 ¼” x 9”) : 0.0671 x 350 = 23.5 bbl

DP/open hole : (12 ¼” x 5”) : 0.1215 x 1350 = 164 .1 bbl
DP/ casing : (12.415” x 5”) : 0.1255 x 4800 = 602.4 bbl

Total annular volume = 790 bbl

790 ÷ .123 = 6423 strokes (bottoms up strokes)

-------------

Formation breakdown pressure : PFB = Head of mud to shoe + PLO

= (10 x 0.052 x 4200) + 872
= 3056 psi

GFB = 3056 / 4200 = 0.728 psi/ft

(or Max Equiv Mud Wt = 0.728 ÷ 0.052 = 14 ppg)

MAASP at time of kick = 3056 – (10.6 x 0.052 x4200) = 740 psi

Or = (14 -10.6) x 4200 x 0.052 = 740 psi
