In another strange incident, in 1983 a settlement officer went missing on the mountain for three
days. The local elders were informed and special rituals were performed. On the morning of the
fourth day, the settlement officer was found leaning against the trunk of a tree. He was relaxed
and in good health.
This took place in mount Nyangani which is the highest mountain in Zimbabwe. The mountain
got its name from the Sanyanga Chiefs who together with the Tangwena people ruled over the
area for many years. The landform was important to the elders, it is where they could hold secret
meetings.
