ENTITY PROFILE OF THE BASILAN ULAMA SUPREME COUNCIL FOUNDATION, INC.
The Basilan Ulama Supreme Council (BUSC) was organized in 1990 but acquired its juridical
personality from the Securities and Exchange Commission (S.E.C) in 1995. It is purely religious
service, non-profit and non political organization in the province of Basilan with complete set of
officers and organizational structures composed of an Ulama or (Muslim Scholars) graduated
from different Islamic schools and Universities abroad particularly the Middle East and local
Islamic institutions of which majority of them are now serving and engaged as Arabic
instructors both in traditional Madrasah and integrated secular schools such as Madaris
education in the province.
‘The objectives are: 1) to unify the Ulama and other Muslim religious leaders in the province; 2)
To give guidance, counseling and supervision to A’imma (Priests) in Masajid (mosques) and
unify topics on Khutbah during (Friday sermon) and assigned Khataba members to (Friday
sermons) in the different Masajid (Mosques) in the province); 3) Serves as body of discipline,
faith guidance or counselors and catalyst for promoting peace and development in partnership
with local government authorities in the province ie.; the LGUs officials, the National
Government Agencies in the province.
The Basilan Ulama, are known to be one of the sectors to have highest sense of dignity and
credibility in the Muslim Ummah and Community as they obtained their Islamic education from
different Islamic schools of taught in Middle East.
As a potent and credible body, they are committed to do their part not only in terms of spiritual
teachings but also in social aspect of developmental issues such as; the promotion of Love of
God (Allah), Advocating for a Halal and Non-Halal products as mandated by an Islamic
injunctions, the Love of Neighbors as well as sustaining and promoting peace and harmony
through dialoguing, Intra and interfaith process of settling issues, concerns and controversies that
may affect social order in the communities and humanities.
Being an umbrella Muslim religious organization in the province, have organizational structures
and 16 standing committees and some of which are focusing and devoting to the following
significant activities; 1. Da’wa Islamia through Madrasah education based on Islamic
teachings and moderations; 2, Negotiations, Mediations and Arbitration based on
Indigenous justice System and Islamic wisdom; 3. Serves as catalyst of Peace and
development partnering with various stakeholders in Social Development Program and
others.
