By the end of this lab session student will be
able to:
1. Calculate pediatric medications .
2. Demonstrate (OR,IM,SC ,ID ,Inhalation &
suppositories .).
3. Calculate IV infusion rate and fluid maintenance .
4 .Apply eye ,ear and nose drops.
Pediatric dose calculation
1-Milligrams/kilograms/body weight
This is the most common method used for alculating
pediatric dosage ,It is based on the client’s weight
l Care must be taken to properly convert body
weight from pounds to kilograms (1 kg= 2.2 lb).
l Pediatric dosages are usually expressed as
mg/kg/day or mg/kg/dose.

l Preschool and older children
l Adolescents
Recommended maximum amount
Ø Give 1 ml or less in toddlers& preschool.
Ø Give 1 to 2 ml in older children
