Subject: Submission of Internship Report

Dear Sir:

I am very pleased to submit the report on my internship experience at BDG Magura Group.

My main incentive was to prepare this report according to your guidelines and to describe

what I have learned throughout my two and half month of internship. I have tried my level

best to follow your guidelines in every aspect of preparing this report and strived hard to

include as much details as possible of my working experience at BDG Magura Group.

I hope that this project will be up to your satisfaction.

Sincerely yours,

Munirul Islam for improving my practical working skills. Finally, I am very grateful to those

Colleagues who support me a lot and help me out while working on BDG MAGURA

GROUP.
Purpose of the Report

Internship is one of the most crucial parts for a student of undergraduate business program. It

is the time when students get the opportunity to engage with the real life working

environment and it is required after a four year long learning session under the university. It

is more useful for the students from the business background because in our profession, we

need practical exposure to modes and operation of different organizations. This report is

made of ten journals and other sections which are reflecting my two and half month’s

experience at BDG MAGURA GROUP

Methodology
Most of the information what I have written are gathered from my personal experiences

throughout my internship. Except that I took some information from company’s website and

used standard search engine like Google.

Scopes
This paper includes all the products and services of BDG Magura group. It also includes the

current operational strategies of the company. There are details about the clients and markets

of the company currently operating. I have written all the experience I have encountered

throughout my internship program.

Limitations
There are some limitations so far I found while preparing this report. I have tried my best to

include most of the good and bad experiences throughout my journey. But due to company’s

policy, I could not write some of the information. Beside this, it is quite impossible to

experience all the things in two and half months.

Executive Summary

This report is a reflection of my experience and workings of my internship program. Two

month ago when I stared this program, there were some expectations which mismatched with

real life scenarios. This report contains all of the works that I have done BDG Magura group

and those works are given in details on weekly journals. I have written my likings and

disliking of this internship program in details. There is a section where I have shown

comparison between my expectations and real incidents. In a nutshell, this paper is a

document of my learning experience.

Introduction
Two months ago, I was looking for a company, where I can work independently and learn

about the corporate environment and strategies. I was lucky to be recruited as an intern at

BDG Magura group. It is a growing company and few years ago there were only two

departments. Test production was running at that time. Though I was an intern there, my job

responsibility was actually more than my job description. I learned a lot as well as enjoyed

my work at BDG Magura group. What I expected from my internship was totally full filled

from my internship at BDG Magura group.

shaped BDG-Magura Group into a Multidimensional Enterprise with wide spread business

coverage for the basic needs of people in the food, cloth, shelter, education and medicare sectors.

BDG-Magura Group is thereby, established through constantly striving to improve the life style

of the people of Bangladesh. Each sister concern of BDG-Magura Group has been contributing

for developing of the economy of the country as a whole by setting up industries, plants and

through other activities in the diverse field.

BDG-Magura Group is aimed at grooming the future of the country. Concern of BDG-Magura

Group are as follows:

Pearls paper and board mills limited:

Pearl Paper and Board Mills Ltd. (PPBM) an unit of BDG-Magura Group, established its factory

at Sreerampur, Dhamrai, Dhaka with unique infrastructural facilities. The present literacy rate of

the country already exceeded 60% which was 48.4% in 2000. With the increase rate of

population and literacy rate in the country the use of paper has been constantly increasing. Use of

duplex board for the growing industries such as Pharmaceuticals, Readymade Garments are also

increasing. The number and circulation of daily newspapers, weeklies, and periodicals are also

increasing. Private sector paper mills are coming up in increasing numbers to meet the

requirement of different varieties of paper.

PPBM has been manufacturing quality offset paper and white writing paper. Because of high

quality the products have huge demand in the market. The project has created job opportunity for

200 people. The plant is capable to produce 40,000 MT of writing/printing paper, offset paper,

Art paper/Card, and converted offset paper per annum.

PPBM has always maintained its trust on reaching out to people with high quality paper and

excellent service network. The project is well equipped to compete in the highly competitive

market and meet the growing demand for quality paper.

The company has made strategic move and emerged as one of the leading manufacturers of

paper.

PPBM has evolved into a well-established and vertically integrated company, competitively

positioned based on the strength of its quality paper manufacturing and brand recognition.
Magura Paper Mills Ltd.

Consumption of paper is considered as one of the indices of the general progress of any country

both in the cultural and industrial field. The per capita consumption of paper in developed

countries varies from 200-300 Kg. Even in developing countries the figure is in the range of 10-

40 Kg. In Bangladesh, the per capita consumption of paper is below 1.0 Kg. This lower rate is

mainly attributable to low literacy rate and neutralizing effect of the high rate of population

growth.

The paper sector in Bangladesh was so far dominated by public sector. But with the liberal and

pragmatic industrial policy pursued by the government, quite a number of paper mills in the

private sector have been set up in the country and many more are coming up.

The exiting paper mills in the country are traditionally producing mainly cultural grades of

paper. Magura Paper Mills Ltd. (MPM)is the first project in the country, which is producing

Kraft liner and fluting medium essentially required for manufacturing corrugated cartons. The

demand of these grades of paper is rising at a faster rate consistent with the increase in export of

garments and shrimps. The project has created direct job opportunity for 500 people. There is net

saving of F.E. to the tune of US $ 10 million annually. The project is significantly contributing to

the economic development of the country.

Constructed by highly qualified local engineers and technicians with the supervision of Chinese

Engineers, the plant has been set up on 15 acres of land at New Town, Meghna Ghat in

Narayangonj on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway. The plant is capable to produce 22000 MT of

industrial grade paper per annum.

Millennium spinning and knitting factory Ltd.

been striving hard to meet the demand of cloths for its large population. The production of cloths

in the textile sector is not adequate to meet up the total requirement of the country. The rich class

Textile products. In addition, a large quantity of low quality imported fabrics supplement the

demand of the middle class.

Millennium Spinning & Knitting Factory Ltd. (MSKFL) an unit of BDG-Magura Group is being

set up with the vision of producing best quality fabrics for the domestic market as well as for
exporting to the international market. BDG-Magura Group has the international linkage for

raw materials for producing fabrics. Successful implementation of the project will contribute

significantly towards the national development through foreign exchange earnings.

My Job Responsibilities
I was appointed as an intern in marketing department. But as it is a growing company I

needed to work on every department. It helped me to get a holistic idea about the overall

operation of the company. My job responsibilities were performing market survey, making

databases and selling glasses to the retail market. But I have worked beyond my job

responsibilities.

My Activities and Contributions to the Company

Throughout internship when I got desk job at the office, I had to do four types of work.

Though it is a group of company so I have visited all 3 sectors of the company those are

papers, real estate and garments. In those areas I needed to make databases of the real estate

firms, checking accounts, and managing Customer Relationship Management (CRM)

software. Sometimes, I was given responsibilities to make strategies. I proposed my strategies

in weekly meetings. Most of the time I had desk job in my internship. I had to go through the

database of customer who was interested to purchase our land, I would say this is the work I

have done mostly throughout my internship. I have attended several corporate meetings with

our corporate sales executives. I have managed some corporate meetings using my own

network. I had a tour in Mawa, Srinagar for a visit to our south town project. I have tried my

best to contribute as much as I can to the company. In papers section I helped them to make

strategies. In this industry, paper distributors are our customers and end users are consumers.

I made a PUSH strategy for the distributors and designed several campaigns. Push strategy

includes some financial and promotional incentives to the distributors. By analyzing the sales

growth, I can say that my strategy was successful. I have created a good relationship with

some corporate houses and retail distributors. Currently, the company is getting a good

number of frequent orders from them. I have also managed some corporate clients.

Lesson learned from the organization

Multi-Dimensional Task Accomplishment:

In my internship period I had to work in social media marketing department of the

organization .This helped me to understand the actual work place situation. I have learned

various works in the period.

Adjustment with the work place and socialization:

While I was performing my internship program within the bank, I was treated as an employee

like others in the organization. I got sufficient assistance from working people in term of having

enough idea about their working strategy. This enhanced my knowledge, skill and the power of

applying of my academic knowledge in a workplace. I believe this is much quite important and

also the whole program made me ready for starting my career in the same environment.

Enhancement of communication skill:

As a fully customer oriented organization, the BDG magura group operates great customer

service where communication skill is the most important factor. I have achieved significant

amount of knowledge about customer service and I have recognized that great communication

skill is the fundamental requirement of serving the customers with great service.

Knowledge about corporate culture:

It required that a workplace could have people from different culture back ground with in it.

Mixing with the culture of organization and coping up with the different people from different

background really prepared with knowledge of workplace diversity.

Digital marketing various aspects:

During internship I have learned different aspect of digital marketing like I learn video

presentation Adobe Photoshop, Illustration, how to make post, how to promote brand etc.
This internship is a part of our BBA program. NSU has given us this opportunity to have a

practical job experience before getting into a permanent job as a full time employee. Internship

helps us to learn lots of things which will be very necessary for the near future.

Others:

Besides learning from the organization and the university I have also learned various others

things which are very essential for me:

-Improve knowledge on subject area and became a more discipline person.

-Increase leading power.

-Developed skills, competencies and I am more efficient now.

-Corporate behavior and etiquettes.

My Learning Experience
As I said before that it is a group of company so I could experience three different sectors, I

have got opportunity to work independently. Here I was given responsibilities and have

learned many things which will help me to work efficiently in future. As marketing major I

have improved my MS Power Point skills during my university days. But it is also very

important to improve skill in MS Excel. At BDG Magura Group, I have improved my Excel

skills day by day. It was not very tough because I have made 26 databases of real estate
companies during my internship. I have also learned to use CRM software. Our accountant

was very kind to me and taught how to keep proper records of the accounts.

At Millennium spinning and knitting Factory limited which is our garment sector of BDG

group during the time of internship program; I assemble many learning things, which inspire

me. The learning things are pointed in the following:

In the time of my internship period I learnt how to make a document for the buyer

order I try to summarize how many order collect in a month and how much sale in a

month.

Before shifting to this sector I do not understand properly about the garments making

process. After three month of working period I have a clear conception about the

garments making process.

Problems arise in the marketing section in then I try to communicate with the concern

party for the problem. So my communication skill must be increase for this.

Before working I have no job experience and have no concept how an organization

follows time management. After working there I have clear conception about time

management practices of an organization.

Before working I have no idea about the CAD, swatch, sample, and count of the yarn

but now it is very familiar word for me. I know very well about the CAD, sample,

swatch and count of the yarn and those making process.

In the time of my internship I learnt about how a person can develop his career and

maintain his subordinate.

I learnt about the corporate culture, which is strictly maintained by the organization.
Dealing with Difficulties Encountered

At first I thought internship will not be that difficult for me but it came out the other way

around. It was very tough for me to sit at the office from 9am to 5pm. In my NSU life, I did

not have more than three classes a day. Besides, I used to get break between these classes.

But in office I needed to be from 9am to 5pm. That was difficult and after 15 days, it was

very easy. Working on MS Excel was at first difficult for me because my skills on MS Excel

were not in advanced level. Currently I have overcome that problem and can easily work on

MS Excel.

When I joined as an intern BDG Magura Group, every task which was given to me was

completely new for me. At the very beginning, I used to feel so nervous by thinking that how

could I solve all these issues around me. I had to face different types of difficulties on my day

to day activity. Sometimes, I did not even find any clue about a certain task and its way of

solving, but I did not give up. I have followed some unique techniques that I used to follow in

my university life as well. Whenever, I have encountered any task related difficulties, I have

tried to go thoroughly over it and gain at least a basic idea about it. If I did not get any clue

about it, then I used to review a complete task of similar nature done by someone else

previously. After having some idea about it, I used to start my job. Nevertheless, many a

times I have encountered different problems which were not easily getable, where I used to

discuss those issues with my supervisors or other employees of the factory who holds some

sort of idea about it.

Relation with Coworkers and Supervisor

In the corporate world, no one can achieve his/her desired success without having a sound

relation with superior and coworkers, and the same thing is also applicable for an intern also.

Being an intern, I have always tried my level best to maintain a sound relation with my

supervisors and coworkers. In BDG Magura Group, the working atmosphere was so nice that

every time whenever I faced any sort of difficulties or problems instantly they helped me out

from that situation. Notably, all members of the branch helped each other to achieve the

greater organizational success. They were highly professional, punctual, and dedicated in

terms of their day to day activity. As an intern, I have also tried to show my professionalism,

punctuality, and dedication towards the work. Whenever I had to communicate with any

employee of the company, I have always followed the professional way of communication.

Apart from the corporate affairs, I have also shared my personal issues, career plan, goals and

many things with my supervisors and coworkers while working with them. I used to have

lunch with my supervisors. Moreover, they also used to share their food with me. Though

they were my supervisors, they have considered me none less than an employee of the

company.
Difference between Expectations and Realities
There were mismatch between exception and realities at BDG Magura Group during my

internship. I thought it would be a piece of cake for me but in the end it was not. I thought I

would work in branding department but I ended up working in sales. Only my expectation

matched in terms of office environment. But in field it was a total different scenario. Some

points are given to show the mismatch between expectation and realities.

1. Software: During my NSU time I have developed my presentation skills as well as

power point skills. But in the marketing job it is required to have a good presentation

skill but strong ‘power point slide making skill’ is not necessary. Simple slides are

encouraged to be made. But it is very important to have a good skill in MS Excel. All

the records and databases are kept in excel files.

2. Branding vs. Sales: Branding and Sales are two essential parts of marketing. What

we have learned in our university life is mainly focused on branding. But the thing is

that branding is a part of corporate and business level strategies. A sale is a part of

functional level strategy. So it is very tough to start a career in branding department.

Though in Bangladesh, employer sometimes hires employees in branding team but

they end up working with sales team. Now I agree that this is the right process. At

first, we need to learn how to sell and then after gathering some experience we can

work on branding department. Because the ultimate goal of a company is to sell its

products and services. Experience adds more value in branding sector.

3. Promotional Tools: Most of time fresh university graduates think media is the most

effective promotion tool. It is true only for Business to Consumer category (B2C). In
Business to Business (B2B) category, direct marketing promotion is very important.

4. Distributor’s vs. Consumers: In B2C business, it is important to focus on

distributors rather than consumers, because distributors are customers here. For

example, in terms of tempered glass, final users (consumers) do not have any direct

access to us. If they want to purchase our product or service, they need to go to retail

stores. So if we do not take care of retailers, they will not sell our products. If there is

a high demand in the market of our product by the consumers but retailers are not

selling it, it is obvious that consumers will not get that product. I think we need to

spend 70% promotional budget for distributors and 30% for consumers.

5. Whistle Blowing: In Bangladesh, whistle blowing can prove to be very dangerous. It

is only useful if that particular employee has a very good boss.

What I would Change if I Redo the Internship

If I had to redo my internship program, definitely I would bring some massive changes on it.

After completing my internship, I did not get that type of satisfaction which I was supposed to

get. And the main reason behind it was my task area, which did not possess any challenging or

dynamic work experience to influence my future career plan. So, having trust on my eligibility, I

would try to secure my internship program in administration, where I can get the chance to apply
my analytical skills of project solving. If I were given the chance to work in any garments, I

would have performed much better than the previous one. Since, I have successfully completed

all the courses of marketing that are offered by my university; definitely I would try to leverage

those learning in my work area. If I got sufficient chance to show my caliber of different market

analysis, I would have turn out my internship program into permanent employment on the

redoing part.

Plans to Improve Some Skills

I have a plan to improve some of my skills. At first, I need to take my skill on SPSS software

to advance level. I always get demotivated if someone criticizes my work. So I need to get

familiar with this situation. Sometimes, I feel uncomfortable while working with people who

are not good enough to handle the situation. In that case, I need to improve my convincing

capabilities. I also need to learn to perform out of comfort zone. In the end, I would say I

need to improve my time management skill as well.

Influence of Internship on Career Plan

An internship program can work as an influential factor in terms of modifying ones career.

Before starting the internship program, it was my dream to work on that particular area where

I can get ample opportunities to apply my learning Sales and Marketing. Notably, my desire

was to work on some projects which deals sufficient amount of analytical problems. After

joining as an intern, my dream did not find any reality at all because in garments my working
area did possess analytical skills. Nevertheless, I think this internship program can be

considered as a turning point in my life where I got the chance to analyze different alternative

career prospects and finally ascertained a particular field for my future career.

My Future Plans
I have talked with some of my faculties, colleagues, seniors and friends and come up with a

plan that after my graduation I will go for my masters in abroad. In the current world, market

is very saturated. So a degree from a renowned university will give me more exposure and I

can differentiate myself more. It will also boost my confidence level in working on

diversified environments, which is very important for a business graduate.

Recommendation

-Increase funds on social media marketing

-Provide training to the new intern of the organization

-Increase efficiency of brand page on social media

-HR department needs enough space to deliver important papers

-Increase competence of Brand page on social media

-Brand should aim their target group on social media

-More staffing for social media marketing

-Brand should promote more on Non-brand communication via posts to attract consumers.

Conclusion
After completing my internship program at BDG Magura Group, it was my realization that I

was so fortunate to be a part of one of the leading group of company in Bangladesh. Working

as an intern and being a part of the BDG family was a great honor for me. Additionally, the

knowledge I have acquired from such organization will always be a lesson for me. I wish a

very successful future to BDG Magura Group.

APPENDIX

they have plans to send me to the developers in future. Except learning these things, I have also

made a database of printing press for them. Because it is a paper production company, printing

press is one of the lucrative markets for them. I made a daily sales and collection list in excel by

the help of Mr. Thuhin of different paper mill company belong to Magura group.

Learning and Achievements:

I have learned many things about paper and paper mills product. We are producing Kraft liner,

fluting medium for cartons, First Grade paper, and writing and printing paper, offset paper,

cartridge paper, and ledger paper. I also have learned about the paper market. My supervisor
taught me who are our target markets and who are our competitors. He also taught me how to

make a database properly.

Observations:

I have observed that the office culture is very friendly. There is a status hierarchy in the office.

Everyone is very friendly and nice to me. Another good thing is that I have direct access to the

director. I can easily communicate with him whenever I want. It gives me a feeling that they

have considered me as a part of their family. My supervisor who is a marketing executive of the

company is also very good, easy going and flexible. But he is very strict about the office time. I

have to check in at the office within 9am. Though the office hour is 9 am- 6pm but sometimes he

allows me to leave office early for meeting my internship supervisor at NSU.

Notable incident:

In the very first day as a new intern, they congratulated me warmly and every officer; even the

branch Manager and, Merchandiser came to me and treated me like their regular staffs. The

friendly behavior helped me to adjust in the new working environment.

Time Frame: 1 July to 8th July, 2017 (2nd Week):

So far I had a very good experience on first week of my internship at BDG Magura group.

Compare to the first week my second week was pretty hectic because I had to go to the retail

markets for taking order with the corporate marketing executive and the retail market executive.

But so far I have learnt a lot from the field visits.

Works Done:

During my second week of internship at BDG Magura group I had to go to Bangla Bazar retail

markets for taking order with our retail marketing executive of BDG Magura group. At first, we

went to retail market. Our team went from retail outlet to outlet for getting orders. Our marketing

executive is an experienced person in this field. He has 10 years of experience in this industry.

So he has a good network with the retailers. We covered 25 outlets in retail market. 12 retailers

have agreed to buy from us. In total we got 60 orders from retail market. At the end of the week

I and retail marketing executive went to a printing press and got an order.

Learning’s and Achievements:

As an intern I did not participate in the negotiation process with the retailers. Corporate and

Retail Marketing executives dealt with them. My work was to entry the orders in the laptop. I

have learnt the negotiation process through observation and asking the executives. I have learnt

that retailers are our customers and end users are the consumers. I think it is pretty difficult to
deal with the retailers as they always try to dominate in the deal. But because of those two field

visits I have learnt how to keep the nerves calm and set the deal. Core learning was the

negotiation process.

Observations:

Surprising fact is that no retailer was concerned about our promotional strategies and product’s

quality. They were only concerned about timely delivery. So, I think push strategy is a very good

marketing tool for us to control this retail market.

Push Strategy: Push strategy is a promotional strategy which focuses on channel members and

emphasizes on their needs.

Notable Incidents:

Notable incident was the behavior of the retailers. Some of them were very nice to us. Some of

them gave us suggestions that what sort of product we should focus more. But most of them were

very rude. So communication with them was little bit tough. From my perspective this was the

most challenging work in retail markets. Our Retail market executive said that “Never lose your

temper”. It is tough but not impossible. Some of the retailers said straight no to us. They refused

to take our product because they are getting a good amount of push money from our competitors.

We need further strategies to capture them. Corporate marketing executive was very nice to me.

As a marketing major student I think all the sectors of marketing like advertisements, strategies,

branding and marketing research can be taught in the class room except sales. Sales needs

frequent field visits and experience. I think my field visit experience will help me in future.

Week 3 was very special for me because I was shifted to another department who deals

with land and attended my first corporate meeting with high officials. It was a great

experience. So far I would say, this is the best thing happened to me in BDG Magura

Group. This is a growing company and the top management believes in empowerment.

So I went to the companies with other corporate marketing executives to assist them.

Works Done:

During my third week at BDG Magura Group, first three days I was busy making a

database of the customers who sign up purchasing land in Rehab fair. As they are one of

the most lucrative markets for our company. During the last two days of my third week

BDG Magura Group, I visited two big developer company in Bangladesh; Building

technology and idea limited, Asset development and holdings limited. It was a wonderful

experience. Basically, I was helping the corporate marketing executive. The meeting was

successful. Both companies were interested to visit our land .We also invited them to visit

our lands.

Learning’s and Achievements:

It was my first high voltage corporate meeting in BTI, so there were many things to learn.

I have learned how to deal with the corporate clients. Beside this thing, I had to learn lots

of things about our land projects. For example, to purchase land customers need to fill up

a form along with providing 100000tk as booking money and after paying the booking

money rest of the amount they need to pay by three to six months. After receiving the

entire amount we will make the registration paper. I have also learned about the land

registration process.

Observations:

Price range of the land varies from location to location because of the facilities of that

particular area like gas line, wasa and many others. I think selling Land in developer

companies is pretty difficult compared to regular customers. The reason is the unethical

commission charging system by procurement departments and engineers.

Notable Incidents:

I have found out that Land industry is running on business relationship, it’s about

manipulating the customers. If I want to build my career in this sector, I have to brand

myself as a good influential person. So far third week was not very hectic. I enjoyed my

corporate meetings and I have learned some selling tricks, indeed.

I already mentioned earlier that BDG Magura group has different companies. Millennium spinning and

knitting Factory Limited is one of them. This week my instructor sends me to the inventory to know the

products and the raw materials of the garments. My first assignment was to list as all the products as

much as possible.

Works Done:

This time I worked under the inventory manager. From him; I learnt the product system and flow,

different types of raw materials used in garments industries, inventory system of garment.

Learning’s and Achievements:

My first assignment was to identify the raw materials of a garment. Their intention was to make polo

shirts and different types of t-shirts. Their first work starts from inventory. They first send me to the store,

from where they manage their inventory. At first stage; I have covered the following materials I came to

know about the products and their uses. There are different kinds of products each of them is needed to

prepare the products. Like-

1) Fabrics- this is the main part of the product. There are different kinds of fabrics like TC, poplin,

Fellalin and so on

2) Label- Care label. Flag label. Main label

3) Tag pins

4) Hand tag

5) Finished products

6) Interlinings

7) Button etc.

Observations:
They have bonded warehouse to keep the products. Only custom set rules are followed there. They have

the opportunity to do back to back LC which includes export facilitates. Only tax free bond licensed are

kept here.

Notable Incidents: No notable incident has occurred this week.

Time Frame: 23 July to 29 July, 2017 (5th Week)

During my Fifth week in Millennium spinning and knitting Factory Limited I came to know

about compliance.

Works Done:

Generally compliance means certification or confirmation that the doer of an action such as the

manufacturer or supplier of a product meets the requirements of accepted practices, legislation,

prescribed rules and regulations, specified standards, or the terms of a contract. So I have learned

about compliance from compliance manager.

Learning’s and Achievements:

As per demand this factory, Millennium spinning and knitting Factory Limited tries to maintain

the compliance issue. They have included: Working Hour: A worker should not work more than

10 hours a day including overtime. And their working hour should be 8 hours per day. Leave:

The workers enjoy leave based on their work and maternity. They have also sick leaves. Child

Labor: Child labor is strictly forbidden by law. I did not find any child labor here. Health &

Safety: There must have enough ventilation, toilet and pure drinking water for garments worker.

The company tries to provide everything regarding health and safety issue.
Freedom of association: They enjoy the freedom of making association. If the 30 per cent of the

worker are united then they can make an association. They will have the power of collective

bargaining.

Observations:

After “Rana Plaza” incident Bangladesh is now on the watch-list. International buyers and

consumers would like to see effective steps in place to help avert a new tragedy. Just because of

a few grossly non-compliant operators, the whole sector is getting a bad name. Under such

circumstances, restoring the image of the country's RMG sector is now an urgent national task.

The government, the apparel owners, workers' representatives and all others need to put their

joint efforts to facilitate sustained development of the industry.

Notable Incidents:

No notable incident has occurred this week

Time Frame: 30th July to 04th August, 2017 (6th Week)

This week was very interesting for me. I came to know about group insurance of the workers. I

have learnt about the process; how they start it, and how they maintain it.

Works Done:

This week, I help the administration for preparing excel sheets. They actually keep the record for

incoming and outgoing workers. In case of death of the worker, the nominee receives an amount

of 2 Lakhs of Taka from BGMEA.

Learning’s and Achievements:

Life insurance offered by an employer or large-scale entity association or labor organization to

its workers or members. Group life insurance is typically offered as a piece of a larger employer

or membership benefit package. The coverage costs each individual worker much less if they had

to purchase an individual policy. Those receiving coverage may not have to pay anything "out of

pocket" for policy benefits or they may elect to have their portion of the premium payment

deducted from their pay check.

Observations:
This is a very good initiative for the organization. This will motivate the workers for working

very hard for the organization.

Notable Incidents: No noticeable incident for this week.

Journal 7

Time Frame: 5th August to 11th August, 2017 (7th Week)

Week seven at BDG Magura group was pretty much flexible compared to last week. This

week I have worked on some promotional videos making task which I enjoyed a lot.

Works Done:

First three days I had to work on a promotional video with the professional video makers.

The work was outsourced to a renowned advertisement firm and I was there to help them as I

have a very good idea about company’s products and strategies. The shooting took place at

our sight which is called South Town. First day, we have shot our managing director and

director’s message for the customers. Second day, we went to our sight office and shot how

developed our area is compare to the competitor .Third day, I went to their studio to see the

editing part.

Learning’s and Achievements:

I have learned some technical tricks while making a promotional video. But I am still

learning a lot by reviewing CRM software. I have learned how make a database in CRM

software, how to categorize the customers and how to sort out a particular group of
customers. It is very easy to track customers using CRM software because all the customers

have points in terms of purchase.

Observations:

In Bangladesh most of the companies use MS Excel to maintain a customer database. I would

say, in professional level, companies should use CRM because it is specialized on customer

tracking. Dealing with huge diversified customer data in Excel is tough to manage.

Notable Incidents:

Making a video is an art and requires a good direction. Shooting angle is very important;

otherwise the objects in the video will not be eye catchy. I think is not the camera, it is the

man behind the camera who can make the video more attractive. I saw how our video director

directed the whole process.

Time Frame: 5th August to 11th August, 2017

This week in Millennium spinning and knitting Factory Limited which is belong to BDG

Magura group I experienced something new. I came to know about BSCIC and VAT system.

Works Done:

I went to Tongi area to submit our VAT papers. BDG Group has another sight office in
Tongi. I went to visit that as well.

Learning’s and Achievements:

A value-added tax (VAT) is a form of consumption tax. From the perspective of the buyer, it

is a tax on the purchase price.

The value added to a product by or with a business is the sale price charged to its customer,

minus the cost of materials and other taxable inputs. A VAT is like a sales tax in that

ultimately only the end consumer is taxed. It differs from the sales tax in that with the sales

tax, the tax is collected and remitted to the government only once, at the point of purchase by

the end consumer. With the VAT, on the other hand, collections, remittances to the

government, and credits for taxes that are already paid occur each time a business in the

supply chain purchases products.

Observations:

There is a great opportunity for the people who want to set a business for small, medium and

cottage industry in BSCIC area. This encourages people to invest more in business. And I

came to know about how to do VAT registration and where to go. There is a different VAT

office for each dedicated area.

Notable Incidents: No notable incident.

Journal 09

Time Frame: 13th August to 18th August, 2017 (9th Week)

This week in Millennium spinning and knitting Factory Limited I worked at the accounts

section and the L/C department of the organization. It seems to me very interesting.

Works Done:

I helped the commercials to check and cross check the L/C papers. Putting them in proper

section was main objective.

Learning’s and Achievements:

L/C means letter of credit, which is necessary for import and export. It includes some papers

like performer invoice or indent, application for opening an L/C to bank, commercial invoice,

packing list, bill of lading and LCA paper from bank.

This process includes two parties.

1) Importer and

2) Beneficiary or exporter. Bank notifies both the parties about the process.

Importers apply to the bank about the import. Then bank opens an L/C on the behalf of the

importer. This bank is known as issuing bank. This issuing bank will talk with the advising

bank of the exporter.

The terms and conditions about the deal will be written in the paper of L/C.

The exporter will send commercial invoice, packing list and bill of lading.
After paying to the issuing bank the importer gets the LCA paper from bank and that way he

closes the L/C.

Observations:

I found that there was some mismatch about net weight and gross weight difference in

packing list which might create huge embarrassment later on.

Notable Incident:

No notable incident happen in this week.
