    Manuel Elkin Patarroyo was a Colombian physician and immunologist born in 1946 in Colombia. He studied medicine at the Universidad Nacional in Bogota and specialized in immunology at Yale University. In 1987, he created the first vaccine against malaria, called Sp-66, which was tested in the Colombian Amazon. Patarroyo received numerous honors and awards for his contributions to medical science and research.
