ANTICIPATED PROBLEMS: The Ss might find difficult to ask questions in order to find
out the right answer, chosen by a classmate.
Warm - up: (7 minutes)

After checking their homework, the students are asked to look at a picture for 1 minute,
very carefully. Then, the teacher begins to enquire the following: Which sentences are
singular and which are plural?. They need to answer the questions correctly and remember
all the details shown in the picture. They will work with all forms of the "there is/are"
structures.

A1: to listen for specific information

TIME: 5 minutes

CONTEXT: In town

ACTIVITY: First, the teacher announces the aims of the lesson. Next, the students are told to
look again at another picture and listen to a dialogue. They need to choose the
correct words.

A2: to choose the correct word in a text with "there is/are" structures

TIME: 7 minutes

CONTEXT: The London Eye

ACTIVITY: The teacher tells the students to open the books at page 40 and solve exercise 2.
They need to read the text carefully and choose the correct answers. This way,
they will practice the use of "there is/are" and of prepositions of place. At the
end of this activity, they check their answers.

ACTIVITY: The students have to solve exercise 4/page 40 by matching the prepositions of
place with the pictures. Then, they have to use "there is/are" structures to describe each
image, according to the example: There is a ball on the box.

CONTEXT: Listening material: ex 5-6/ pag.40

ACTIVITY: The teacher announces the students that they are going to solve ex 5/pag. 40.
They need to pay attention to the listening part in order to check their answers-ex 6.
Whenever the CD player is paused, they need to provide the right answer.

The students are given an exercise about "there is/are", where they need to write the

prepositions of place.
