Little Free Library- proposal
WHAT IS IT?
We are facing a growing literacy crisis.
Today in the United States, more than 30
million adults cannot read or write above a
third-grade level. Studies have repeatedly
shown that books in the hands of children
have a meaningful impact on improving
literacy. The more books in or near the
home, the more likely a child will learn
and love to read. But two out of three
children living in poverty have no books to
call their own.

Little Free Library book-sharing boxes play

an essential role by providing 24/7 access
to books (and encouraging a love of
reading!) in areas where books are scarce.
At the Little Free Library nonprofit, we’re
working to fill book deserts and grant
libraries to underserved communities
through our Impact Library Program and 3

The Library Club of Texas High
School will host various
fundraisers with the goal of
building and posting three
structures to house books of
various reading levels to be
placed throughout neighborhoods
with less access to reading
materials.
These neighborhood libraries
will be free and will
encourage people to borrow and
read and donate or take books
at their pleasure. They will
be checked periodically for
restocking. They will be
stocked with books purchased
by the library as well as
donated books. This will be
the community project of the
year for the THS Library Club.

The library will partner with our Woodworking and

Welding classes to follow these free Little Free
Library plans available through
www.littlefreelibrary.org . The sponsor will provide
guidance and project management, but the pacing and
actions will be driven by the students in the club.
