Lacrosse Skills

1. Scoop
a. Stand with feet shoulder width apart
b. Have dominant hand at neck of stick
c. Place non-dominant hand in the lower half of the stick
d. Bend knees into a squat
e. Lower stick to the ground
f. Keep butt of stick angled up and net angled down
g. Move stick from back to forward
h. Once ball is in net tilt net upwards
i. Lower butt of stick towards the ground
2. Cradle
a. Place dominant hand a fingers length away from the net
b. With non-non-dominant hand gently hold the lower half of the stick
c. Keep the elbow of the dominant arm up and even with the shoulders
d. Start with the stick by the ear
e. Bend wrist to twist netting
f. Move arms from dominant to non-dominant side of the body
g. Bring stick towards nose
h. Twist net so the opening is facing body
i. Keep non-dominant hand loosely on stick
j. Return netting to start position
3. Shoot
a. Place domains hand at the neck of the stick
b. Place non-dominant hand at the lower half of the stick
c. Have an athletic stance
d. Lower half of body should face goal
e. Torso and arms twisted away from goal
f. Keep stick aimed at goal
g. Hold stick at torso height
h. Swing arm and torsos forward
i. Snap wrist to release ball out of netting
j. Follow through with swing
4. Roll Dodge
a. Stand with non-dominant foot out front
b. Hold stick with dominant hand towards the middle
c. Place non-non-dominant hand in the middle to lower half of stick
d. Cradle ball in netting
e. Keep stick in front of body
f. Step with non-dominant foot
g. Turn body so back is to opposing player
h. Protect ball with body
i. Turn body to face forwards again
j. Run with ball or pass to another player
5. Throw
a. Hold stick with dominant hand in the middle of the stick
b. Place non-dominant hand on the lower half of the stick
c. Aim netting so the opening is facing the direction desired
d. Direct the butt of the stick towards the target
e. Hold the stick so it is above the shoulder neck to head
f. Push with the dominant hand away from shoulder and head
g. Pull with the non-non-dominant hand bringing the butt to the body
h. Follow through with swing
i. Snap wrist so ball leaves netting
j. Step through with dominant foot to support the body’s weight
