Let’s explore some unique customs from


different places in the world!
St. Anthony’s Day

• January 17th is Saint Anthony’s Day in Mexico. It’s a day


when people ask for protection for their animals. They
bring their animals to church. But, before the animals go
into the church, the people usually dress them up in
flowers and ribbons.
Thanksgiving Day

• On the fourth of Thursday of November, Thanksgiving


Day is celebrated every year in the US. Meanwhile,
Canadians celebrate Thanksgiving on the second Monday
of October. People celebrate it to give thanks for the
blessing of the harvest. People usually prepare some
dishes or turkey with many other food.
Chusok

• On the 15th day of the eight lunar month, Koreans


celebrate Chusok to give thanks for the harvest. The
festival is usually around September or early October.
It’s a day when people honor their ancestors by going to
their graves to bring food and wine. Moon cake is a
special food of Chusok day.
Setsubun

• On February 3rd, people in Japanese family take one dried


bean for each year of their age. Then, they throw the
beans around their home and shrines while shouting
“Good fortune in! Evil spirits out!” They usually celebrate
it in the beginning of spring.
Pingxi Lantern Festival

• Celebrated at the very end of the Chinese New Year, this


ceremony lasts whole night. Thousands of sky lanterns
light over the Pingxi District in Taiwan. The lanterns are
released to ward off the evil and let people know the
town is safe.
Holi Festival

• Normally in February or March, Holi is celebrated in


India as a symbol of good over evil, the arrival of spring
and the end of winter. Also known as the Festival of
Colors, this event lasts for a night and a day, starting in
the evening of a Full Moon Day.
