Intake Waste Treatment Using Hydrothermal Carbonization

Background

• TJB power plant use sea water for cooling water system

• Abstraction of sea water unintentionally also takes marine biota

• Marine biota is restrained on land bar screen

• According to the government regulation, intake waste should be managed

• Intake waste has potential to be utilize as fuel, fertilizer, and animal feed

Objective

1. Provide comprehensive study regarding intake waste management

2. Provide the data regarding product which is generated from intake waste

Waste characteristic

• Carbohydrate, protein, and fat determination

• Calcium content determination
• NPK-content determination

Hydrothermal carbonization procedure

1. Wash the intake waste with fresh water and collect the used wash water for salinity test
2. Insert the intake waste with the real composition into the 2.5 L lab-scale reactor
3. Experiment temperature: 120 0C, 150 0C, 180 0C
4. Pressure: Steam saturation pressure for every temperature
5. Residence time: 30 minutes after final temperature is reached
6. Waste : water = 1 : 2 (/w)
7. Perform each experiment conditions for two times
8. Separate the products into slurry and carbonized shell
9. Collect sample from process water for salinity test
10. Dry the slurry inside the oven with the temperature of 50 0C
