WINDOWS 7 SETUP FOR PHORESIS INSTALLATION

Symptoms

- Error messages occur during the utilization of Phoresis (e.g. error accessing files).
- Phoresis doesn’t work properly.

Causes

- Problems when accessing the configuration files of Phoresis.


- UAC (User Account Control) is not optimized.

Resolution

Follow the steps below to customize Windows 7 when installing from a DVD or during the first power of a
PC with the preinstalled Operating System.

Applies to

All computers with an Operating System Windows 7 (32/64 bits).

To install and configure Windows 7 from a DVD, or for the first start of an Operating
System Windows 7 pre-loaded, you must follow these guidelines :

Only for installation from DVD

In the first step of installation, you must partition the hard drive before formatting it and run a “clean install
of Windows 7”.

Whether for installation from DVD or first boot of Windows 7 pre-loaded

Create a single user using the wizard that appears during the process by setting user name "Sebia" (this
becomes the only user and administrator on the computer).

Whether for installation from DVD or first boot of Windows 7 pre-loaded

Set the password "sebia" and a suggestion that does not contain the password.

Only for installation from DVD

Enter the product key to activate the license as soon as possible, if possible via the internet, or by calling
the toll number.

After the installation, check the following settings :

STEP 1/9 : Access the Control Panel

STEP 2/9 : Disable the User Account Control (UAC).

This operation is used to prevent the customer from having to confirm each time an application is open.

STEP 3/9 : Set the Power plan to "High performance".

STEP 4/9 : Set the display sleep settings to “never”.

STEP 5/9 : Set the Power button settings to “Do nothing”.

This setting is very important to avoid accidental shutdowns by the customer.

STEP 6/9 : Set the display of file extensions in folder options (untick the highlighted box).

This setup is very important to facilitate the telephone support in the process of replacing files daily and total.

STEP 7/9 : Turn off automatic updates.

STEP 8/9 : Turn off or manage the firewall.

It is preferable to manage the firewall with the system of exclusion rather than to turn it off completely.

STEP 9/9 : Registration of PC in the network domain

If the computer needs to be registered in the laboratory network domain, each network user will have to
be configured with the full local “administration” rights. This is necessary to allow the software to run
correctly with the right access to every file.
