A)
A cantilevered beam is subjected to uniform pressure on the top surface as shown in the
figure
below. E = 31×106 psi, ν = 0.29, thickness = 1 inch, P = 30 psi.
If L = 40-inch, h = 4-inch (slender beam), use (A) 3 node triangular element (select
PLANE182 (4 node element) as element type, then select mesh to triangle in mesh tool),
(B) 8 node quadrilateral elements (use PLANE183), and (C) beam element (use BEAM188)
to find the maximum normal stress σx on the support and the displacements at the center
of the free end. Compare the ANSYS results with the analytical solution from the strength
of material

Problem 3):
A plate is subjected to uniform tension at the free end as shown in the figure below. E =
29.9×106 psi, ν = 0.3, thickness = 1-inch, distributed load p = 4000 psi. If L = 4 inch, w = 5
inch, h = 2.5 inch, and r = 0.5 inch, find the stress concentration factor K near fillet by
using the results from ANSYS and compare its value with the K obtained from the stress
concentration chart shown below. K = σmax/σavg. σmax is the maximum normal stress
σx near the fillet obtained from ANSYS. σavg is calculated as shown in the stress
concentration chart.

So maximum normal stress on x direction is 7502.25psi
Results verification:
As, (r/h= 0.2, w/h= 2.0) so Actual K value from graph is 1.8
So, we have obtained the Ansys analysis result similar to the value so the
analysis is accurate.
Conclusion:
From this analysis we infer that how finer is the mesh quality we get the
accurate results, and the error % for the analysis is 4.199%.
