Virtual Italian Space Agency (ASVI) is a fictitious space agency which was created in February

2011 as the result of cooperative work among several FOI (Forum Orbiter Italia) members.
The selected site for the agency’s airbase is at Capo Passero (Sicily, Italy). It will perform all the
essential functions of a spaceport, as well as acting as a mission control center. It also houses the
headquarters of ASVI.
Located at the southernmost edge of Italy (at 36°40’14" N – 15°4’36" E), ASVI base is the most
suitable location in our country to accommodate the launches. From the Mediterranean to Turkey
the sea spans for hundreds of miles. To the South East and towards the ISS, there are plenty of
desert areas. These two features provide a fairly safe place for the first stage to fall over, after it’s
been used.

The area assigned to the traffic of spacecrafts is equipped with four launch pads suitable for various
types of vectors and is connected to a facility used for their assembly (SAV: Struttura Assemblaggio
Vettori – Vector Assembly Structure) via a crawlerway.

The base has a main 4 km long landing strip, suitable for re-entry and recovery of reusable gliding
spacecrafts. The main track is flanked by two smaller airstrips, for conventional atmospheric air
traffic and for rescue & recovery vehicles.

There is also a section devoted to the construction and maintenance of experimental spacecrafts,
which provides two vertical-landing pads to any vertical propelled vehicles.

There’s a recovery/parking and boarding area too, with a control tower to provide coverage of the
base. This area is connected to the previous area and to the tracks through a taxiway.

ASVI and FOI headquarters are located in the office area, where is the Mission Control as well.

Last but not least, here is the vectors assembly area, where we find the aforementioned SAV, two
major structures for the assembly of command and lunar landing modules, the hangar for reusable
vehicles and the crawler.

Installation

Prior to install this release, the old release of ASVI base must be uninstalled first.
Browse to your "Uninstall" folder and launch ASVI_Uninstal.exe, then unzip the RAR archive of
the new base into your main Orbiter folder.
After that, browse to your "Config" folder where you'll find a file named: Da rinominare-Base.cfg.
This file should be renamed to "Base.cfg" and it should therefore replace your existing "Base.cfg"
file, but do hat only if your "Base.cfg" file has never been edited.
Should this not be the case, you have to manually edit your "Base.cfg" and add (copy-paste) the
following lines:

ASVI\ASVI-sede1
ASVI\ASVI-Portone

ASVI\ASVI-Hangar

This procedure is needed in order to correctly show all the textures. When you've done with this,
you can launch Capo Passero scenarios.

Acknowledgments

First and foremost our thanks go to Dr. Martin Schweiger for the development of this fantastic
simulator. Without him, no add-on would never see the light.
We also thank all the members at Forum Orbiter Italia, an Italian site where users can share ideas
and projects in their native language.
