 Identify the purpose and importance of a code of ethics.

o The importance and purpose of the code of ethics is to give educators and

professionals something to follow and reference back to. Remaining ethical is

something crucial within any career, but especially a profession that is working

with children. There are a lot of ways that teachers can get in legal trouble and

risk losing their job if they do not remain ethical.

 Identify the purpose and importance of your code of ethics.

o The purpose of code of ethics is to keep me on track and reaming loyal to my

goals, pedagogy, and teaching style. Teachers go through a lot of extra stress and

work load that can a lot of time put a strain on their mental health and in the long

run can put a damper on how well and effectively they teach. I don’t want to ever

be that teacher that students dread coming to or that hates their job and I believe

that if I have a code that I hold myself accountable too, that will help me keep my

head on straight. In Special education specifically there is a lot of liability and

legal things that can end a teacher’s career if they slip up. I think the code of

ethics also helps teachers to know what truly is right or wrong. It is also a

reminder of what we should be doing such as advocating, relationships, and they

importance of assessment.

 Identify the specific themes that appear in your code of ethics.

o Some themes that I noticed in my code of ethics was that it was a lot about

professionalism and making sure that we are constantly learning and growing our

knowledge about our career field and making sure that we are always on top of
our game. Many of the ethics were talking about engaging in improvement of

professional knowledge.

 Describe why those themes are part of their specific code of ethics.

o I believe they are about of my ethics code because as a special education teacher

thing such as laws, regulations, criteria, and eligibility requirements are constantly

changing so it is important that we are lifelong learners. As well as those things,

no two students are ever going to be the same, so you always have to be prepared

to think outside the box and experiment with different ideas and styles to help

teach the student appropriately.

 What are three areas or themes that cross over all three codes of ethics (ECE, Education,

& Special Education).

o Professionalism

o Making sure that you are upholding and following the procedures that are in place

by the school and the state.

o TO be familiar with and confident with knowledge about your profession and also

staying up to date with to materials.

 Analyze three areas or themes that cross over all three codes of ethics (ECE, Education,

& Special Education). Explain why these themes cross over areas of certification.

o Professionalism- I believe this is a common theme because it is a critical piece of

a profession that you are remaining professional, but especially when you are

working with the public. When you are interacting with families it is important to

maintain professionalism no matter what, it is not ethical to get in a screaming

match with a parent or to give away confidential information, among other things.
o The second theme that I noticed across all of the codes was making sure that

everyone is upholding the procedures because if a teacher does not follow

procedures and something blows up, that could come back on the whole school

and can be a big mess. It is important that everyone, no matter what field of

education, that people follow the procedures because they are in place for a

reason.

o Lastly, a theme that I noticed was making sure that employees are staying up

today on the most recent materials, legalities, requirements, etc. I think this goes a

long with professional development, I know that almost all teachers are required

to get so many hours of PD in a school year. It is important that teachers are

familiar with the most recent laws and requirements because ethe school can get

docked or fined if something is not done correctly.

 The candidate describes an area that is not part of their code of ethics, but you feel should

be and why?

o I honestly can’t think of anything that was missing. Tis code of ethics covers

everything that is necessary.
