“The knower’s perspective

is essential in the pursuit of

knowledge.” To what extent
do you agree?
Perspective is essential in every field of life because without a perspective one
cannot have a direction in which he or she has to work. All knower’s develop their
perspective through years of learning and interaction with the environment which
includes all living and non-living things. This perspective is built by the knower
knowingly and unknowingly.

Also, it is very important to note that though the perspective is essential in the
pursuit of knowledge, it is greatly influenced by the type of knowledge and the
way of knowing. These influences can over shadow the knowers minds, limiting
there thinking and preventing them to explore knowledge in its full extent. For
example, is the knower in the pursuit of intellectual or scientific knowledge? If he
or she is in the pursuit of intellectual knowledge then his or her faith will have a
great effect on his or her perspective and if he or she is in the pursuit of scientific
knowledge then reason, intuition and sense perception which are the ways of
knowing will affect his or her perspective.

Similarly, it is also true that the pursuer’s perspective will affect the way of
gaining knowledge. This can be explained by the example of two religious people
trying to affirm their beliefs. One person will try to reach scholars of his religion
and try to seek evidence from them so that his beliefs are proved and have a
social acceptance. On the other hand, the other person will reach out not only the
scholars of his religion but also read and understand the work of the rebuttals.
This will lead him to acquire true knowledge without any bias.

But through common sense and a little thought we can conclude that there is a
high probability that most of the knowers might not pursue knowledge with any
perspective because they would think that they already know it. Due to this
reason, there is also a need of learners who are inspired to pursue knowledge and
quench their thirst of knowledge. So now, not only the knowers but also the
learners’ perspective matters a lot in the pursuit of knowledge because it is they
who will, in true sense, pursue knowledge. And this will be because the learners
are mostly more motivated and eager to acquire knowledge than the knowers.

On the other hand, sometimes it also happens that the pursuer (learner and
knower) just follows the path of knowledge, trusting his intuitive skills and sense
perception, to know where it takes him or her. And I think such pursuers of
knowledge are the ones who make completely new discoveries and have the
ability to explore this vast universe. If such is the case then it would not be wrong
to disagree with the statement; “The knower’s perspective is essential in the
pursuit of knowledge.”

In addition, knowing the perspective is not important as long as the reasoning

that was used in the pursuit of knowledge is given. This is because knowing the
perspective will only be of importance if there is bias, if there are no biases
included it is eminent that the pursuer has reached the conclusion through some
reasons.

In a nutshell, the gaining of knowledge is not a slave to the pursuers’ perspective.

Knowledge can be gained in the presence and without the presence of a
perspective. If there is a perspective, it should be backed by proper reasoning,
facts and proofs. Even if there are emotions present, the perspective should
follow logic such as science and mathematics so that there is no bias against it.
