IS A COLLEGE EDUCATION WORTH IT?

OPENING STATEMENT (Against) An investigation carried out indicates that about

30% of Peruvian college students abandon their career for different reasons. Annually,
some 174,000 young Peruvians have left their studies at the different universities in the
country, for instance. The situation varies according to the type of management of each
house of studies: in public schools, the current dropout rate is 9.85%; while in private
schools it reached 22.5%.

FORMAL REBUTTAL That’s a good argument, but . . . I’m not just talking about
socioeconomic status. Colleges must be aware of this diversity and conform their
educational service to the socioeconomic needs of students. Colleges must think of
strategies and policies that allow them to access the same opportunities with freedom and
equity. and not only focus on generating profits or economic income.

CLOSING STATEMENT, I believe that to be successful it is not necessary to finish

college studies, for example there are billionaires who left their university studies and now
have a lot of success in their companies, such as the case of Mark Zuckerberg, Bill Gates,
Larry Ellison, and this thanks to the fact that they continued to studied on their own to
realize and fulfill their objectives. They are proof that you don't need to go to college.

OPENING STATEMENT (Favor) Currently, 70% of young people in Peru have access
to college education. However, “it is not enough for them to enter university, but their
permanence and professional development must be ensured. From start to finish "

In addition, the colleges are implementing Centers for Support and Professional
Educational Development (CADEP). These have financial backing. for example; CADEP
has set out to implement efficient and sustainable management systems and processes.
such as promoting better administrative and educational practices. And this is having a lot
of success.

FORMAL REBUTTAL The case of Henry Ford and other people do not mean that
everything will be successful, I think that young people should have university studies and
be complementary with a technical career for instance. in case you cannot find a job
quickly in this competitive market that we have these days. I think that would be a good
option to maintain a temporary job. Such as a second career.

CLOSING STATEMENT, The university dropout rate ongoing to grow in our country
every year. I think that the government, together with the university authorities, should
improve their strategies to avoid this problem and not ignore it, and this would recover
the young people who left the universities all this time.
