    Clean Air Act (CAA) 1963,1965,1970,1977,1990 This federal law regulates


    air emissions from
    stationary and mobile
    sources and provides
    authorization for the EPA to
    establish National Ambient
    Air Quality Standards
    (NAAQS) in order to
    regulate emissions caused
    by hazardous air pollutants
    and protect public health
    and welfare. This also
    created primary and
    secondary air quality
    standards.

    Clean Water Act (CWA) 1948, 1972 Produced the basic


    structures of regulating
    discharges of pollutants into
    water sources and regulates
    the quality of surface
    waters.

    Convention on International 1963 (draft adopted), 1972 An international agreement


    Trade in Endangered Species (created), 1975 (entered force) with the goal to ensure that

    production and import of
    ozone depleting substances
    and to also reduce their
    concentration in the
    atmosphere. This was
    established to also aid in the
    protection of Earth’s ozone
    layer.

    Kyoto Protocol 1997 —> entered force in An international agreement


    2005 that linked to the UN
    Framework Convention on
    Climate Change. This
    protocol committed
    industrialized countries and
    economies in transition to
    both reduce and limit their
    greenhouse gas emissions
    in accordance with agreed
    individual tagetes.

    Endangered Species Act 1966, 1969, 1972, 1982, 1988 Protects species that are
    (ESA) considered to be threatened
    or endangered by providing
    a program for the
    conservation of threatened
    and endangered fauna and
    lora and the habitats in
    which they are found.
    Safe Drinking Water Act 1974, 1986, 1996 This act set forth protective
    (SDWA) drinking water standard by
    EPA for more than 90
    contaminants, including
    drinking water regulations.

    Resource Conservation and 1976, 1986 This act allots the EPA
    Recovery Act (RCRA) authority to control
    hazardous waste from
    “cradle to grave” and
    regulates land-based
    disposals of waste with the
    goal of encourage recycling
    and a reduction in waste.
    This also set menial
    standards for waste
    disposals facilities and for
    hazardous wastes.

    Delaney Clause of Food, 1958 Banned food additives which


    Drug, and Cosmetic Act were found to cause or induce
    cancer in animals or humans
    as indicated by testing. Its goal
    was to prevent cancer in
    humans.
