Background of the organization

Dr. Ambedkar Sheti Vikas Va Sanshodhan Sanstha  (ASVSS) (Dr. Ambedkar Agriculture
Development & Research Institute) was established in the year 1987 to address and resolve
the issue of Dalits especially agriculture and issue related to dignity of Dalit communities.
The focus of the organization is to sustain the food security and developing safer livelihood
means for Dalits and other backward communities. The organisations primary targets are
women, youth and children.

Introduction of the case

Name- Bhagyashri Sunil Kanchale

Age- 8

Education- 2 nd class.

Address- Taluka- Sangola District---Solapur.

Problem: Client belongs to VJNT (Vimukta Jati Nomadic Tribes) community. She is living
in a slum area of Chincholi road in Kaccha house. Her mother and father are working as
Ragpickers and roaming for the Begging of Grain. She has two brothers and one sister. Her
elder brother and elder sister are drops out of school. Because her mother and father are
roaming for livelihood due to which no other person give attention to their education. Client
was also drop out of the school It is noticed by social worker, that in VJNT communities
most of the Children are drop out from the school. Because of this problem try to
communicate with Bhagyashree and various children in their community interacted
discussion meetings conduct with them every Sunday tried to take their classes and try to
teach them. Improved their learning interest. They also conducted meetings and various
activities with parents and local communities about the importance of education. They also
involved zila-parishad school.

Intervention by Social Worker

Identification of the problem--- Organisation identified the problem of school dropout in


most vulnerable children of the marginalized community of VJNT where due to
inaccessibility and poverty, children miss out on school.
Assessment of the problem—organization surveyed the problem of dropout of the children
from the school in VJNT community . Also studied problems faced by their parents.

Communication with client--- Social worker communicate with the client and various other
children of the community. encouraged them to go to school and helped them participate in
various activities

Group meeting--- social workers of the organisation conducted numbers of meeting with
the client and other children to motivate them to study, also provides them with gap classes
which help them get enrolled in their age-appropriate grade. and improved their learning
interest

Home visit—Social worker made home visit to talk to family of the client and convinced
them to let the client go back to school.

community group meeting—Social worker conducted meetings and various activities to


generate awareness amongst parents and local communities about the importance of
education and tried to convince them to let their children go back to school. And also
explained the importance of the required documents.

Advocacy---Social worker advocated with the zilla parishad school to facilitate the client to
start school again

Impact of intervention

Client is attending zilla parishad school regularly

Client is even studying at home and her interest in education has improved

On behalf of ASVSS, social workers are taking extra classes on Sunday and holidays

Client’s elder brother has also started going to school again.

Eight children from community have started go back to school.

Client has re-entered the main education stream at the right time.

Client’s younger brother has also come into the learning process.

Client can hope for a better future and may not have to carry out ragpickers work like their
parents
Organisation has succeeded in motivating the client to study and take up her education once
again. Organization also was able to convince the client’s parents promote her to attend
school and take education

Many parents within the community were convinced to promote their children to attend
school and gets an education
