1. Draw a box-and-whiskers plot and obtain three statistical conclusions.
2. Construct a histogram with classes [2, 4), [4, 6), [6, 8), [8, 12), [12, 20) and [20, 30). Find mean, mode,
median, variance and standard deviation for the grouped data.
3. Draw a stem and leaf diagram and obtain three statistical conclusions.
4. A box contains marbles: 10 red, 30 white, 20 black and 15 orange ones. Two of them are drawn in succession
and with replacement. Find a) the size of the sample space, b) the number of games where both marbles
are white, c) the number of games where the second is not black.
5. The urn I contains 2 white and 3 black balls, urn II contains 4 white and 1 black balls, and urn III contains
3 white and 4 black balls. An urn is selected at random and a ball is drawn at random. Find the size of
the sample space.
6. In how many ways can three different coins be placed in two different purses?
7. There are 6 men and 7 women in a ballroom dancing class. If 4 men and 4 women are chosen and paired
off, how many pairings are possible?
8. The probability that neither A or B occurs is 2/3. What is the probability that one or both occur?
9. If P(C) = 0,25, P(D) = 0,45 and P(C ∩ D) = 0,10, find P(C { ∩ D).
10. How many ways can you arrange the letters in the word STATISTICS? In how many arranges the two I’s
are next to each other?
11. You pick two cards from a deck of 52 cards. Find the number of games where both cards are Q.
12. There are 10 students in a classroom. How many ways are there for no two of them having a birthday in
the same month?
13. You roll a four-sided dice three times (use the sample space with 64 equally likely outcomes). a) Write
down the sample space, b) list all of the outcomes in each of the following events: A: exactly two of the
three rolls are fours, B: al least two of the three rolls are fours, C: exactly one of the second and third
rolls is a four, A ∩ C.
14. The teams T1 , . . . , T8 are ordered by placing their names in a hat and drawing the names out one at a
time. How many ways can it happen that all the odd numbered teams are in the odd numbered slots and
all the even numbered teams are in the even numbered slots?
15. A full-house in poker is a hand where three cards share one rank and two cards share another rank. How
many ways are there to get a full-house?
16. 20 politicians are having a tea party: 6 democrats and 14 republicans. They need to choose 3 people to set
the table, 2 people to boil the water and 6 people to make the scones. Each person can only do one task.
a) In how many ways can they choose which people perform these tasks?, b) Suppose democrats all hate
tea. If they only give tea to 10 of the 20 people, how many ways are there to only give tea to republicans?

17. A woman with 11 friends is planning to randomly invite 5 of them to dinner, but two of them are not on
speaking terms and will not attend together. Find the probability for the dinner not to be uncomfortable
to anyone.

18. A man has time to play roulette five times. He wins or loses a dollar at each play. The man begins with
$2 and will stop playing before the five times if he loses all his money or has $5. Find the number of ways
the playing can occur.
19. A pair of fair dice is tossed. Find the probability that the maximum of the two numbers is greater than 4
if the dice are a) indistinguishable, b) distinguishable.

20. Let A and B be events with P(A ∪ B) = 34 , P(A{ ) = 2

3 and P(A ∩ B) = 41 . Find P(A ∩ B { ).
21. Box A contains nine cards numbered 1 through 9, and box B contains five cards numbered 1 through 5.
A box is chosen at random and a card drawn. If the number is even, find the probability that the card
came from box A.

22. An urn contains three white balls and two black ones. Two of them are randomly and simultaneously
selected. Find P(X = 0), P(X = 1) and P(X = 2) if X indicates the number of black balls selected.
23. Let three fair coins be tossed and let A: all Heads or all Tails, B: at least two Heads, and, C: at most two
Heads. Of the pairs (A, B) and (B, C) which are independent and which are dependent?
