Panukat ng Ugali at Pagkatao (PUP)

- Most prominent multidimensional personality inventory


- Dr. Virgilio Enriquez and Ma. Angeles Guanzon, 1985
- It is presented to the international scientific community in 1981 at the International
Conference on Personality Assessment.

- Aims to tap specific values, traits and behavioral dimensions relevant to the study of
personality.

- Trait definitions, velues, behavioral and attitudinal dimensions were taken.

TEST DEVELOPMENT
- 150 randomized items on 13 traits- the first form of PUP (mhiyain, pikon, sumpungin,
matiyaga, mapagmasid, maramdamin, matulungin, sunod-sunoran, matigas ang ulo,
mapag -isa, mapagkumbaba, malakas/mahina ang loob ang mahirap kausapin)
- Form A was translated into different languages. ( Bicolanioo, Cebuano, Ilocano, Ilonngo,
Waray, Maranao, English, Bahasa Indonesia)
OVERVIEW OF PUP
- Consists of 160 items which is in Filipino and with English translations. 141 items that
are organized into 24 traits scales and 2 validity scales.
- Items may be rated through a 5-point bipolar scale (Hinding- hindi, Hindi, Walang
masabi, Totoo and Totoong-totoo)
- 19 identifier items of “inaaming ugali” or self-claimed personality traits which were
included for personality researches purposes. They assess culturally-relevant behaviors
and attitudes use as criterion variables in personality research studies.
19 IDENTIFIER ITEMS
- Items that taps societally relevant characteristics, items tapping behavioral, attidtudinal or
personality characteristics which resposndents may directly admit or deny.
- Pagkamadasalin (prayerflness), kasipagan (industriousness), karangyaan (luxury),
katapatan (sincerity/loyalty), may kusang loob (initiative), madalas maaksidente
(accident-prone), maninigarilyo (smokers), attityud sa sekswalidad bago maga sawa
(attitude towards premarital sex), atityud sa sekswalidad na extramarital (attitude towards
extramarital sex), atityus sa homosekswalidad (attitude towards homosexuality),
pagssugal (gambling), pag-inom ng alak (drinking), pananakit sa sarili (aggression
towards self), malikhain (creativity), mamimilosopo (contemplativeness)
EXAMPLES:

RELIABILITY AND VALIDITY


- PUP’s validity scales indicate arespondents tendency to deny basic truths (Pagkakaila)
and to reject cultural values typically held by Filipinos (Kaugalian)
- 2 internal Validity Subscales

Pagkakaila (Denial) Validity Subsacle – items that the respondents are expected to
disagree with if they are honest and careful in answering the questions. The respondents
may also deny the truth, although not necessarily or consciously to protect their ego.

Kaugalian (Cultural Norms) Validity Scale – items that tap some standing truths
about the Philippine culture as gleaned from previous studies and observations.
TEST DESCRIPTION
- Paoer- pencil or computer-based test
- No time limit for administering. Entire set is answeres in 30 minutes.
- Can be administered individually or by groups
- Trait subscales consists of an average of 6 items each.
TEST ADMINISTRATION AND SCORING
- PUP is self-administering
- Each dimension, items are positively stated and others are negatively stated.
- For each item, examinee is asked to indicate with the use of a 5-point scale his degree of
agreement about the applicability of the item.
- No item should be skippes, eavh item has only one answer.

I. Extraversion o Surgency – assesses the degree to which an individual is sociable, greagarious,
assertive and leader-like versus quiet,reserved, mannerly and withdrawn.

II. Emotional Stability – this dimension of personality concerns the extent to which individuals
