Network Installation Guide Addendum

Autodesk Inventor Professional Network Deployment

The network deployment for Autodesk Inventor Professional 11 is essentially the
same as the deployment for Autodesk Inventor® Series 11. However, in mixed
environments where there is a combination of Autodesk Inventor Series and
Autodesk Inventor Professional, you have the option to control which license is
consumed.

Floating in a mixed network environment

The following products have independent licensing:
• Autodesk Inventor Series
• Autodesk Inventor Professional
• Autodesk Inventor Professional Routed Systems (AIPRS)
• Autodesk Inventor Professional Analysis and Simulation (AIPS).
When you install Autodesk Inventor Series and Autodesk Inventor Professional with
network licensing, access to the licenses, is available from the menu: Start >
Programs > Autodesk > Autodesk Inventor 11 > Autodesk Inventor Professional 11
> Network License Launch.
The Network License Launch menu shows the types of network licenses that can be
utilized by the currently installed product. For example, if a license for each of the
products is installed on the Network, the menu displays the following links:
• Help
• Use Inventor Series License
• Use Inventor Professional for Routed Systems license
• Use Inventor Professional for Simulation license
• Use Inventor Professional license

Use these links to run the installed product and consume the license you select.
For example, when you click the Autodesk Inventor Professional link, an Autodesk
Inventor Professional license is checked out, regardless of whether any of the
additional functionality provided by the applications is utilized. When you click the
Autodesk Inventor link, an Autodesk Inventor Series license is checked out. In this
case, only the Autodesk Inventor functionality is available. You decide which version
to run by selecting the appropriate link from this menu.
You can install Autodesk Inventor Professional on all machines to simplify the
installation process. You can also install Autodesk Inventor from the Autodesk
Inventor Series CDs for users who do not need Autodesk Inventor Professional
functionality.
Note: The network license that was last invoked becomes associated with the last
used Autodesk Inventor file extension. To access a different network license, start
the network license you want to invoke from one of the links as noted previously.

Cascading Licenses
Autodesk Inventor 11 contains an enhancement to the licensing system and resolves
license allocation problems that occur when you use a mix of separate products, such
as Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD® products.
The license manager recognizes a product hierarchy (AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor
Series, and Autodesk Inventor Professional). When you access one of the products,
the lowest appropriate license available is consumed.

Applying Service Packs

Autodesk Inventor-based service packs are historical. That is, they must be applied
in sequence. This also applies when building deployment images.

Installation
The following describes the differences between steps in the AutoCAD® Network
Installation Wizard and those in the Autodesk Inventor Network Installation Wizard.
A description of the AutoCAD Network Installation Wizard is located on the product
CD-ROM in the folder \bin\Acadfeui\docs in a .pdf file (acad_nag.pdf). In the .pdf
file, see Chapter 3 > Deploy AutoCAD > Use the Network Installation Wizard.

The following options are available only in the Autodesk Inventor Network
Deployment wizard accessed from the appropriate Options link:

Part Modification page:

• Enable or disable part modification from within drawings.

Autodesk Inventor® Professional 11
Measurement units and Drawing Standard page:

• Select either inches or millimeters as the default measurement of length.

• Choose the default drawing standard.

Content Center Libraries

Default libraries are all selected by default. You can cancel the selection of any
check box to prevent a default library from being installed.

Client Installation Location page:

In AutoCAD, you can override the default Client Installation Path if client installations
are run in non-silent mode.
In Autodesk Inventor, you can override the default location of the client installation if
client installations are run in non-silent mode. You can change the location of the
folder to install into, but you cannot change the name of the folder.
If you are using script to deploy Autodesk Inventor for a silent installation, it is
required to run MSDE (InventorMSDESetup.exe), MSI3.0, MDAC2.7, and WSE2.0
before the Autodesk Inventor installation. See the Use Scripts to Deploy AutoCAD
section in the Quick Start to Network Administration.

NOTE: The Network license server is blocked by firewalls. The port in the license file
(280), lmgrd.exe booth must be allowed to go through the firewall to proceed with
installation.

If an Autodesk product is installed on a system, and then later you attempt to install
and setup a network license server on that same system, the default service is
"borrow," not flexlm. However, since Borrow is not a valid service name, you must
add another service, exit and restart lmgrd, and proceed according to the
instructions.
