UNIT 8; SECTION 1:

Project Proposal:
Over the course of this year, I have studied these practitioners:
Stanislavski, whose work is centered around his theory of realism, a concept
where the actor must embody a character to portray a realistic performance. As
well as Charlie Chaplin whose work contrasts Stanislavski in its use of melodrama,
using exaggerated movement and facial expressions. I also studied Alecky Blythe
who devises “Pure Verbatim” productions and Nadia Fall who devises “Massaged
Verbatim” productions. I studied Augustine Stringberg ‘s naturalistic play, “Miss
Julie.”
However, I benefitted most from the following: Stanislavski whose theory of
Realism influenced all my work as an actor and filmmaker. Alecky Blythe informed
my understanding and interest in incorporating Verbatim Theatre in my own
work. Finally, I benefitted from studying Nadia Fall’s and her play “Home.”
After careful consideration I have chosen to focus on Nadia Fall and Massaged
Verbatim because as a practitioner I want to improve my use of motivation and its
effects on a scene. I will study Stanislavski’s technique of action, which will
enable me to develop the skills associated with motivation in practice.
